Throwback Thursday: ‘Weeds,’ ‘The O.C.’ and ‘The Fosters’ Wedding
Let’s start August off with a walk through television history. We’re looking back on major TV moments, premieres, and even a few favorite posts from our archives.
Years ago, August tended to be a month of reruns where networks were concerned, and while there weren’t many shows airing, we did find a few major TV moments worth celebrating. Plus, over time, many shows have premiered this week, including Weeds, The O.C., and reality staples like Here Comes Honey Booboo.
This week in TV history also saw the arrival of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who, the breakup of Declan and Holly J on Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Stef and Lena’s wedding on The Fosters.
Major TV Moments
Declan and Holly J break up on Degrassi: The Next Generation Season 10 Episode 12, “Try Honestly: Part 2.” (August 4, 2010)

Declan and Holly J break up when she chooses her own self-respect over a relationship with Declan. These two are a highly popular couple and their break-up was sad, but ultimately the best thing for Holly J — an independent young woman.
So when Declan offers to give her the money for her college education, Holly J struggles to make a decision. She still really cares for Declan but, ultimately she wants to make her own way in life — not have a man pay for everything because he can.
Stef and Lena Tie the Knot on The Fosters Season 1 Episode 10, “I Do.” (August 5, 2013)

On what is supposed to be a stressfree and fun day, Lena becomes upset because Stef isn’t as involved as she would like.
This wedding is monumental because it is one of the first weddings on TV that is between two females. Fans will always talk about this moment not just because of the wedding but because it also marks the first time Callie and Brandon kiss.
Peter Capaldi is introduced to the world as the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who.
Doctor Who fans know that it is always an event when the baton is passed from one Doctor to another. On August 4, 2013, Peter Capaldi made his first official appearance as the Doctor. When asked how relieved he was he said:
It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it’s been absolutely fantastic in its own way.
Capaldi even detailed how he couldn’t tell his daughter that he had been cast, and how upset she was getting when she’d go online and find discussions about who should be the next Doctor.
