
TV News Wrap-Up: ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Teaser Trailer Reveal, Kiernan Shipka Cast in ‘Swimming With Sharks,’ Three Cast in ‘The 100’ Backdoor Pilot, and More
It’s almost time for spring shows to start premiering, which means there are plenty of teasers, casting news and more to be had.
Some shows that have dropped their newest seasons have recieved renewals delighting fans as we get closer to that harrowing time of year where lots of network shows meet their fate.
Of course, it’s not all good news. Some shows have already gotten news regarding their end.

Avenue 5 will return for a second season on HBO. Deadline reports that the news comes on the heels of Season 1’s launch. “We’ve loved every minute of Avenue 5’s inaugural voyage,” says Amy Gravitt, EVP HBO Programming said in an interview. “Armando Iannucci and his team are masters of smart and incisive comedy, and the ensemble cast, brilliantly captained by Hugh Laurie, is second to none. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for our hapless heroes in season two.”

Insatiable has been axed by Netflix after two seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter the streamer confirmed the fate of the dark revenge comedy after a tweet from cast member Alyssa Milano saying “We will not be coming back, sadly.” The tweet slipped under the radar for more than a week before the streamer confirmed the cancellation.
Sex Education has been renewed for a third season. The streamer announced that the British series had been renewed via a social media video starring Alistair Petrie. The series is set to return in 2021. You can read more about the return of the series right here.

Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Diane Kruger (Inglorious Bastards) have been cast in a tv series update of the 1994 movie Swimming With Sharks. According to Deadline, Shipka and Kruger will play the lead roles in a remake of the George Huang film that both celebrates and skewers that Hollywood Studio system. Shipka will play Lou, a young assistant, working for Kruger’s Joyce, at a company filled with manipulators, schemers, and intrigue, with Lou poised to outwit them all. The series will be written and produced by Kathleen Robertson (Murder in the First), directed by Tucker Gates (Homeland), with Chris Cowles also producing.

NBC has confirmed that Superstore will be returning for a sixth season. The pickup follows a seventh season order for it’s Thursday night partner, Brooklyn Nine-Nine which received a renewal a full three months before the sixth season aired. According to TV Line, of the fourteen episodes that have aired of Season 6 so far, “Superstore is averaging over a 0.7 demo rating along with 2.8 million total viewers, easily ranking No. 1 among all NBC comedies in both measures.”

Three actors have been cast in the backdoor pilot scheduled to air during The 100 Season 7. A Deadline exclusive reports, Iola Evans (Carnival Row), Adain Bradley (Riverdale), and Leo Howard (Why Women Kill) are the first cast in the series. The Untitled The 100 prequel was previously reported to be called Anaconda, and will take place 97 years before the start of The CW series and follow survivors of the first apocolypse. Evans will play Callie, who is described as whipsmart and passionate. Bradley will play Rease, Callie’s sister who has to figure out what lines he’ willing to cross to finally come out on top. Howard will play August, a musician and member of a radical environmental group. Evans and Bradley have series regular options to return if the pilot is picked up.
Killing Eve‘s third season has received a premiere date. The third season will debut on Sunday, April 26th. The network announced the premiere with a Valentine’s Day teaser.

The Good Doctor has been renewed by ABC for a fourth season. TV Line reports, “The Good Doctor is averaging just north of a 0.8 demo rating and 5.7 million total weekly viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers), making it ABC’s No. 3-rated drama in both measures (behind Grey’s Anatomy and the recently returned Station 19). With Live+7 DVR playback, those tallies swell to 1.8 and nearly 11 million.”

Amazon is giving Bosch a seventh and final season. The cancellation comes ahead of Bosch Season 6 which will premiere later in 2020 on Amazon. A Deadline deport states that author Michael Connolly and showrunner Eric Overmeyer will be leaving behind the longest running series to date on the platform. “Bosch was one of our first Amazon Originals, and it helped define us as a home for smartly written, captivating series,” said Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studio.

A CSI event series is being eyes by CBS to mark the show’s 20th Anniversary. The forensic drama premiered on October 2020. According to Deadline, the project, penned by Jason Tracey (Elementary) is going to be set in Las Vegas and be a sequel to the original series. Reportedly, William Petersen and Jorja Fox have been approached to appear in the new series but no formal offers have been made. The project is still in the early stages and may not come together within a reasonable financial framework. CBS has not released a comment. CSI bowed out in 2015 after 15 years on air, spawning three spinoffs and a franchise amounting to $1 billion for CBS.
Lucifer‘s final season might not be as final as it seems. According to Deadline, talks are underway for a sixth installment of the series. While the talks are underway, Tom Ellis and other cast members have been offered pilots and other series commitments so if Netflix wants to bring back the drama they might have to step up their game.
