Legacies Review: You Can’t Save Them All (Season 2 Episode 13)

Legacies, Reviews

Josie’s powers grow as she’s infused with the dark magic from the sand clock, proving that she can handle more than expected as she makes her final move to escape imprisonment. Meanwhile, one vampire bites the bullet, Landon’s powers grow, and the prison world is dealt with for good on Legacies Season 2 Episode 13, “You Can’t Save Them All.”

After the showdown that ends with Dorian and an arrow inside of him, it’s clear that Landon is the hero that rises in the prophecy, which means the only thing that can kill him is the golden arrow. With the arrow back in their hands at least Hope can calm her nerves down a bit knowing that he can no longer be killed at random.

Landon’s arc throughout the season has been a fun one and now the anticipation of what’s to come is unbearable. If Landon can fly with his phoenix wings while still in human form what more can he do? Can he use his powers to shoot fire?

Sebastian hasn’t been one of my favorite characters, by far, but it’s a bittersweet goodbye to see him take one for the team so Lizzie doesn’t lose another person close in her life. He saves Alaric from Diego ripping him to shreds and takes his place as the anchor to the prison world awaiting impending doom.

If Sebastian’s actions don’t scream good guy then I don’t know what else does. What he did in his past life doesn’t matter because Lizzie awoke something inside of him that made him want to change how he does things. What’s worse is he wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt, was sent to a prison world by Alaric for something he did hundreds of years ago, and he still becomes the hero that allows everyone to escape with their lives.

Sebastian sacrifices his life for Lizzie, and in the end, becomes her hero that she’ll never forget. Now that he’s dead I see some tension between her and Alaric happening in the future because It’s not going to be easy for her to overlook that his death is, in part, on Alaric’s hands.

I know that we’re not supposed to like Josie full of dark magic, but part of me hopes that even in the finale the darkness isn’t completely removed. She’s beyond powerful at this point and if she can learn to control it there’s no telling what she could do to help the world, as long as she’s able to fight and doesn’t allow it to take total control over her.

Plus, if Josie hadn’t consumed the dark magic all of them would have died at the hands of Kai and Alyssa Chang. She is dangerous, but she cured Jade by turning her humanity back on and saved all of them from eternal damnation even while under the influence of the dark magic.

One thing that I find hard to believe is that Alyssa thinks she’s just getting rid of the prison world and not killing all of them. What does she think destroying all connections to it means? That they just have to live in solitary for the rest of their lives and they’ll be okay? I don’t think she has a change of heart, I think that she plays her role well and pretends that she doesn’t want them dead. She’s ruthless and I find it hard to believe that she can switch up just like that.

I like Jade as a new character for us to get to know, especially now that she’s back to her old self with her humanity intact. Alaric made the wrong decision sending her away without trying to figure out what happened that night, but now’s his chance to make up for it and now Josie has the chance to reconnect with her old friend.

If anything I hope Jade sticks around to become a main character. As for Wendy, there is no humanity for her to switch off that excuses her bad decisions. She’ll have to find a way to prove that she’s grown since that night and can be trusted to not try and take revenge on Alaric.

This season of Legacies has completely blown season one out of the water with character progression and storylines. The only thing I hope the show doesn’t resort back to is the consistent week after week story of a brand new monster being defeated in the span of one episode.

Additional Comments:

  • Words can’t describe how happy I am that Alaric gets to finish off Kai once and for all.
  • Jed and Kaleb fighting over Alyssa when all she wants is MG is pretty hilarious.
  • It’s nice that Lizzie gets to have one last moment alone with Sebastian before the prison world vanishes into thin air, but it’s sad at the same time that she has to watch the one person she’s fallen for die.

  • HI! Just a heads up that there are actually 20 episodes of Legacies this season, not 13! So this wasn’t the penultimate 🙂

    • Hey! Thanks for the heads up and sorry for the confusion. I thought this season was going to be longer, but when looking up the episodes online I couldn’t find anything after episode 14, which in turn made me think the next episode was going to be the finale. That was my error and I have fixed it!
