Schitt’s Creek Review: Maid of Honour (Season 6 Episode 4)
The Crows trailer is here and it is terrifying.
Yet, there’s nothing more terrifying than the effortless way Schitt’s Creek Season 6 Episode 4, “Maid of Honour,” manages to blend classic rom-com wedding shenanigans, the satire of low budget horror, and the thrilling mystery of a man in a trenchcoat together harmoniously.
Honour has nothing to do with the success of this episode — but horror sure does.

Yes, the Crows trailer certainly is something to behold.
One could also say this about Moira’s latest wardrobe choice. At this point, I know a headdress constructed of fake crows should not come off as jarring after everything this woman has done to educate the public on fashion, but even for Moira this is a bold move.
Thanks to Moira’s crow themed attire, her desire to pin the success of her entire career on Jocelyn, and that anxiety-inducing trailer, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this storyline is an absolute stand out.
Give that the premiere for her film is fast approaching, we can only expect this segway into Moira’s acting career to get better with time and context — much like Moira herself.

Schitt’s Creek continues to find new and creative ways to make this wedding storyline as chaotic as possible and as someone that thrives of comedic chaos, I got to say I deeply respect that decision.
Turning the tables on the bridezilla trope and allowing Alexis the opportunity to stomp her feet over losing the maid of honour title to Stevie gives this episode free rein to be as awful as it wants in the name of David’s dream wedding.
By bringing out the less desirable aspects of Alexis for the greater good, the series is able to have a little fun without having that fun be at the expense of Stevie — who, let’s be honest, desperately needs a break.
Alexis acknowledging that there is a line and she is about to cross it is another great moment of reflection for the series and provides context that helps strengthens these relationships we are poking fun at.

Stevie’s self-made journey continues to move forward with intriguing twists and turns.
Her outfit for Larry-Air alone provides this episode with enough comedic material. It’s a shame Moira didn’t see her on the street, she would no doubt have had some choice words for the girl.
I will say that while seeing Stevie so down on herself for failing the first career opportunity she jumped at is incredibly enduring and gives Alexis the perfect out, it does make me yearn from more of her signature sarcastic wit during David and Patrick’s fitting.
It seems like there was some wasted potential there.

Patrick and David are quick to reunite for their fitting and while that’s a big event in David’s dream wedding journal, there’s just as many loveable moments to appreciate leading up to this episodic milestone.
Having Patrick materialize in a suit looking like he just walked off the set of a James Bond film should feel like an entire meal. Instead, it just feels like the cherry on top of what is a treat of an episode for these two.
David: Can we just get married already. I’m kidding. I want pageantry that takes months and months to plan.
Patrick: Of course you do.
The devil truly is in the details of this episode when it comes to this couple.
The thought of Patrick asking Ronnie to be his maid of honour is devastatingly funny to think about. There’s also the quick bit where Alexis name drops Diplo and David explains who that is to Patrick without prompting because he just knows he doesn’t know.

From the moment David breaks the news to Alexis that she is not his maid of honour and the camera shakes as she comes to terms with his betrayal, the show makes it clear this will be another momentous episode for the two siblings.
David asking Alexis to give him away at the wedding is such an endearing scene that is elevated comedically by his need to immediately veto any suggestions she makes for the ceremony.
Pair David’s passive annoyance with another crazy Alexis backstory at the fitting and these two are not only episode standouts, but one of the strongest character dynamics to come out of this season so far.
Not to be counted out just yet, Johnny and Roland continue to surprise us with their old dynamic and a newfound appreciation for each other. Their mysterious mobster theory has it’s funny moments and while the storyline may drag a little, the entire ordeal ends with Johnny willingly conceding to Roland that he was wrong — that’s huge for their relationship.
Realistically, Schitt’s Creek should be concerned with developing the core relationship of this show, Moira and Johnny, in its final days. But we’ve always known it was Johnny and Roland’s relationship that needed the most work and I’m glad the show is choosing to focus on that more this season.

“Maid of Honour” attempts to juggle the lives of all four Roses as they go off on separate adventures and succeeds by highlighting their shared love for the dramatics.
With plenty of passive-aggression, pageantry and Patrick, this episode can hardly do wrong.
And the teases for future and final storylines continue to look promising as we inch closer to the end of Schitt’s Creek as we know it.
