TV News Wrap-Up: ‘Veronica Mars’ Creator Discusses Show’s Future, ‘Friends’ Cast In Talks for Reunion, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Gets Early Season 8 Renewal, and More
Shows are slowly winding down for midseason, but there’s still no shortage of news from networks and streamers.
Hot this week, is the launch of Disney+ which launched carrying The Mandalorian, and boasted 10 million subscribers in its first day of launch.
While the Disney vault may now be wide open, HBO Max is eager to compete and has its own programing moves in the works.

There are no current plans for Veronica Mars Season 5 at Hulu. A TV Line exclusive reports that the streamer has no current plans to continue the story, but creator Rob Thomas is not ruling out the possibility of more Veronica Mars down the line. If and when Season 5 of Veronica Mars does surface, Thomas says that he already has a few story ideas. One of which is very Agatha Christie-esque.

A Sin City TV series is in the works from Legendary TV. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the indie studio has struck a deal with Frank Miller, author of the comics, to adapt the stories into a TV series. Should this deal go forward it will join other Legendary TV fare which includes Amazon’s The Expanse and Carnival Row, Netflix’s Lost in Space and Hulu limited series The Looming Tower.
Amazon has renewed Goliath for a fourth and final season. Deadline reports that the announcement comes just one month after Goliath Season 3 premiered. The final season order marks the end of the first straight-to-season order for the streamer, which until Goliath, operated only on a pilot model.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine has scored an early Season 8 renewal at NBC. According to TV Line, the network has renewed the Andy Samberg comedy three months ahead of the Season 7 premiere. NBC reports that the show’s sixth season “…averaged a 1.2 rating and 3.2 million viewers (live-plus same day) — a double-digit uptick vs. the sitcom’s Season 5 performance on Fox. After 35 days of linear and digital delayed viewing, B99 grew to a 3.1 rating in 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers overall.”

The Witcher has scored an early Season 2 renewal from Netflix. TV Line reports that the series has scored this renewal a month before its debut. The second season will consist of eight episodes and go into production in early 2020. The first season premieres on Netflix on December 20th.
Impeachment: American Crime Story has found its Bill Clinton. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clive Owen has been cast as POTUS Bill Clinton and will join n Sarah Paulson, Beanie Feldstein and Annaleigh Ashford. The third installment of the FX series will follow three women central to the probe Monica Lewinsky (Feldstein), Linda Tripp (Paulson) and Paula Jones (Ashford). At this time the Hilary Clinton role has yet to be cast, but FX Chief John Landgraf says that she isn’t one of the main characters.
Never say never, because it looks like a Friends reunion might happen after all. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that the cast and creators will reunite for an unscripted special on HBO Max. While stars Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc are all in talks to participate, sources say that the deal is far from done. When and if deals can be reached the challenge will then become sorting out everyone’s schedules.
