FBI Review: Outsider (Season 2 Episode 6)
A Wall Street big shot’s death uncovers an insider trading ring and so much more on FBI Season 2 Episode 6, “Outsider.” For the first time ever, I find myself thankful for a case of the week — because insider trading aside, this one also helps us learn more about two of our own.
Do the writers want us to like or dislike Mona? Much like Maggie points out to her partner, on the surface, she’s great. Mona is a confident, independent woman who treats herself to her own birthday weekend. If that does not scream “2019,” I don’t know what does.
The notion that OA — a West Point graduate, former Army Ranger, and current FBI agent — is not good enough for her is laughable.
Salt treatments sound weird, though, so the jury is still out on OA’s new boo. Apparently, a halogenerator disperses salt particles into a room. What on Earth is a halogenerator?

Seeing OA share his insecurity with Maggie is endearing, though, as we rarely see him in anything but FBI mode. To know that he came from being a “poor kid in Queens” to serving his country and taking down bad guys only makes us love him more.
Who would’ve thought that Scola comes to the FBI via Wall Street? His personal connection to the case is the perfect touch as it’s not enough to compromise his judgment, but just enough to make us pay close attention. Characters who take no BS are one thing, but characters who take no BS for a reason are infinitely more interesting.
Though, Scola’s reason for leaving Wall Street is a bit cheesy. Wanting to make a difference is admirable — enviable, even — but if you ask anyone in Jubal’s bullpen, it’s safe to say that they’d have the exact same answer.
The case itself is strong storytelling. The creative team at FBI excels at crafting intricately woven stories without losing the audience. Twists and turns are everywhere, but they’re easy to follow and quite captivating. Think of it as the smoothest rollercoaster at the theme park.

Jane’s death is resolved with ten minutes left in the hour. They solve a case within a case. Eat your heart out, Olivia Benson.
The show already does a formidable job with female characters, but this episode extends the greatness onto those impacted by the crimes. Elena is fearless and brave in wearing the wire; it’s hard not to get invested knowing that she risks her life to save her friends’.
Allowing Elena to display her frustration after Christo’s takedown also drives home the impact of his actions in coercing these women to come to the states under false pretenses, then unwillingly participating in the commission of a crime.

Elsewhere, the increased banter between Jubal and the analysts is enjoyable, but happens so quickly that it’s easy to miss. This is one of those moments where it’s okay to turn down the procedural aspect and focus more on the intrasquad relationships.
