The upcoming One Chicago crossover is going to feel a little more possible than it might have several years ago, and if you’ve seen the trailer, you know this one looks pretty darn intense.

At this year’s One Chicago press day, Chicago P.D.’s Jason Beghe and Amy Morton sat down with reporters to discuss the crossover event, what Voight and Halstead’s relationship will look like moving forward, and the newest addition to the intelligence unit.

Oh, and they also shared some new ideas for Molly’s. (You can watch the full video below.)

“It’s a lot of time and a lot of weekends, and it’s a lot of extra work. And we can just hope that it pays off,” Beghe began as he discussed what it’s been like filming the crossover.

“Yep. And it’s big,” Morton added.

On the crossover, the city of Chicago is dealing with an outbreak of flesh-eating bacteria, and it’s soon suspected that the outbreak is an act of biological terrorism.

“It’s the country’s worst nightmare,” Morton said, adding that if this story were being told about twenty years ago, it would feel much more like fiction than it does now. “It was a little terrifying to work on in that regard.”

After the events of the season premiere, it makes sense to be a little concerned about Voight’s relationship with Jay Halstead for the rest of the season, but it sounds like it’s going to be okay. “It looks like we’re gonna break up, but I think we’re going to work it out,” Beghe said.

“You know, we’re two professionals and strong men who have differing viewpoints,” he continued. “But I think we’re both men enough to understand that it doesn’t serve either us or the unit, and so we have to find a way to work through it, and we will.”

This season has also introduced a new character and new addition to the intelligence unit, Vanessa Rojas, played by Lisseth Chavez.

Beghe said it’s impossible not to be charmed by Chavez. “She’s just awesome, so that affects all of us. And she’s very talented. Fantastic attitude,” he said. “She’s creating the character, which is exciting because we’re kind of old, hardened criminals at this point. And it’s fun and engaging, and we’re embracing it. [We] love to have her here. It’s wonderful.”

On a lighter note, if you’ve been watching Chicago Fire, you know that Trudy is now going to have some influence over Molly’s. So what kinds of changes might we see because of her involvement?

“Well, first of all, better cocktails, with fresh fruit and a really good jukebox. But I have a feeling we’re going to maybe, I don’t know, add some frilly touches that might make Herrmann puke,” Morton joked.

Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC. The One Chicago crossover event will air Wednesday, October 16th beginning at 8/7c.
