15 Reasons We’re Nervous for the Season Premieres of ‘Chicago Med,’ ‘Chicago Fire,’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’

Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D., Previews

It has been a long, trying three months for Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. fans.

With our friends at Firehouse 51 trapped in a mattress factory, our sweet Adam Ruzek in jail, and both Will and Natalie bleeding on the concrete, our fictional friends need us just as much as we need them.

Nobody is okay in the promo for the new seasons. Here are 15 reasons why we’re excited, but also really nervous for the season premieres:

1. The Manstead ANGST.
Chicago Med – Season 5

Will knew what he was doing when he chose to stay in Chicago following Tim Burke’s release, but he never intended for Natalie to take the brunt of those consequences.

The urgency in his actions and voice despite his own injuries shows that their story is not over.

That, and we just really hate seeing Big Red this way.

2. Nat is in bad shape.

This is not your typical television head injury where a character blacks out for a second and then wakes up like nothing happened. With talk of a traumatic brain injury floating around, Natalie’s recovery looks to be a long one.

Should she survive, of course. Which, she’d better.

3. Will, too?

Will is a hard-headed pain in the rear, but he’s OUR hard-headed pain in the rear, okay? When he hurts, we hurt.

He appears to pass out after getting Natalie to safety—meaning he may be more injured than we thought. Pass the wine (and somebody call Jay), please.

4. Saying goodbye to Connor.

We’re supposed to focus on Elsa telling Will that “[he] could die,” but it’s hard seeing Dr. Rhodes knowing he will exit One Chicago forever at the conclusion of the episode.

Connor has been through hell over the course of four seasons. He deserves a hug and a “happy trails” on his way out, but this is Chicago. Happy endings don’t come without a price.

5. Was that the new guy?

Blink and you miss it, but that’s an unfamiliar face who catches Will when he passes out. Who is this new guy? What is his story? Is he a friend, or foe?

There are too many unknowns to welcome him with open arms just yet.

6. We can’t see anything!
Chicago Fire – Season 8

Mattresses burn… a lot. Smoke combined with crafty editing means the only thing we see at normal speed is someone being loaded into an ambo. Maybe it’s not that bad?

Side note, Target is having a special on tissues on September 25. Go get yours. Actually, maybe stock up. Cold and flu season is right around the corner.

7. The boiler does indeed explode…

… and it makes a Michael Bay movie look like a sparkler. The size of that fireball combined with the fact that EVERYBODY is inside has fueled all of our nightmares for the past three months.

8. Did Brett and Foster just…

All of that time spent doing Magic Eye puzzles as children were for this quite literal nanosecond. Our brains have just enough time to see the floor give out, but if you scroll back to just the right moment, it looks like our favorite paramedics who take the fall.

9. FIREFIGHTER DOWN!

If the hair on the back of your neck wasn’t standing up yet, the two words no Chihard wants to hear should do the trick. At least one injury from the mattress factory of horrors is guaranteed—so now the question turns to…

10. Who is on the stretcher?!

It sounds like Cruz who shouts the One Chicago equivalent of “Voldemort,” so that coupled with this photo means he’s likely okay. Foster, Mouch, Tony, and Severide seem to be unhurt, as well. That cuts the list down to… three-quarters of the house as possible victims.

11. That processional, though.
Chicago P.D. – Season 7

We didn’t like Kelton, but a lot of people in the CPD did. Whoever killed him will not be at large for long given the number of eyes watching the case.

12. Fingers crossed it wasn’t Voight, but…

Voight’s fingerprints are found at the scene.

Because of course they are. Hank is one of the good guys, but it’s hard to give someone the benefit of the doubt when their reputation precedes them. He and the unit will have to work long and hard to get the incoming target off of his back.

13. What did Jay do?
Chicago P.D. – Season 7

The new season is a marathon, not a sprint, so it’s concerning to see Voight and Halstead butt heads this early on. It sounds like Jay defies orders. Let’s hope for his sake that he doesn’t.

We’ve seen Voight angry. You don’t want to see Voight when he’s angry.

14. Where is Antonio?

Don’t try to distract us with Kelton’s murder—we haven’t forgotten that Antonio relapsed. With no mention of him in the promo, and the knowledge of Jon Seda’s departure, there is a legitimate concern whether Antonio Dawson will get the exit he deserves.

15. Is Ruzek okay?

How was your summer? Was it full of sunshine and fun? Adam’s wasn’t.

Ruzek’s arrest in the season six finale is hard to watch. Sure, he acts tough, but he’s not jail tough. We’ve spent all summer concerned for his safety, but the promo gives us nothing. Please get him out of there, Intelligence. We miss him.
