No one has had a more successful year than Jameela Jamil, who rose to stardom for her on-screen role as Tahani Al-Jamil on The Good Place and for her off-screen candidness with her social media followers.

The actress, who wasn’t originally scheduled to appear at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, made a surprise appearance after allegedly catching a ride with the Brooklyn Nine-Nine gang on their private jet. How forking cool is that?

Jamil sat down with reporters at San Diego Comic-Con about what life will look like for her after The Good Place, how she and the cast are coping with the impossible task of saying goodbye to this incredible show, and just how cool we can expect the guest stars to be this season.

No one has been particularly happy about living in a world without The Good Place again, including Jamil, who shared that she was incredibly sad to be saying goodbye to Tahani so soon. However, the actress was confident that the decision to end the series after 4 seasons was the right one.

“This was the right way to end it, the right time to end it, and we are serving our fans well,” she said reassuringly. “And the guest stars are so cool this season. It’s perfect.”

Jamil went on to shock the table when she dropped a tidbit of information about her acting career and how it ultimately began with The Good Place of all things.

“I can’t believe this was my first acting job. I’m basically going to have to retire. Nothing is ever going to live up to this.”

The Good Place may have been her first acting role, but Jamil is hardly done making a name for herself in this industry. Don’t expect to see her starring in her own comedy series just yet, but do expect to see her everywhere else!

“I have so many non-acting things lined up. I launched a movement called I Weigh and I’m turning it into a whole company for young marginalized people to create content for them and to make sure they feel recognized.”

And when she’s not killing it with creating unique content for her online platforms, Jamil shared she will be taking her career in fascinating new directions, not all of which her character, Tahani, would be proud of.

“I am also writing a book at the moment and I have a game show, a very disgusting comedy game show and the exact antithesis of anything Tahani would be associated with, coming soon.”

The actress hasn’t given up on acting, but the prospect of finding another role that can live up to this show’s legacy is one Jamil said she’s found to be a particularly daunting task.

“I am looking at scripts but how do I match this? How do you go anywhere further from this? I feel like I peaked too soon. It’s not just that it’s such a great show, it’s that it was an unbelievable working environment,” she explained.

“It’s the only place I’ve ever been where there is 50/50 female directors, 50/50 female writers. And it’s racially diverse and we’re not stereotyped or ridiculed for our race. Our race never comes into the plotline. It’s always a side fact if mentioned at all. So seriously guys — where do I go from here?’

With a show as proactive, diverse, and rare as The Good Place, Jamil raises a good question. Where does anyone go when they find themselves working on a show that represents the absolute best of this industry?

For the time being, Jamil said she’s still preparing herself for the many ends coming her way with this series, including the final table read.

“Everyone’s going to cry so much and it’s going to be really hard. This show means the world to us and we are a real team, a real family, and it hasn’t really sunk in that this is it. I feel like I am going to see them again next summer, but I won’t and it’s very weird.”

As for what she can tease about this season, Jamil kept her lips sealed for the most part but she did leave us with this:

“No, I can’t say anything other than the guest stars are amazing, the show is really cool, and because Michael knew about it since last October, we’ve all been working towards this for a very long time. I think you’re going to get the ending that you would like.”
