First Look at GLOW Season 3
Are you ready to ruuuuuuuumble?!
After a long wait, Netflix finally dropped trailer for the third season of GLOW, and wow, was it worth the wait! The second season of GLOW was somehow even stronger than its stellar first season, and the third season is shaping up to be a worthy follow-up.
Coming into the third season, there are some significant storylines that should definitely be explored further.
On GLOW Season 2 Episode 10 “Every Potato Has a Receipt”, Bash (Chris Lowell) and Rhonda (Kate Nash) unexpectedly got married, which surely will have ripple effects over the course of the season and affect their respective relationships with Carmen (Britney Young) who appears to have developed a crush on Bash.

However, the most compelling aspect of Bash isn’t actually his impromptu marriage.
On GLOW Season 2 Episode 9 “Rosalie,” GLOW revealed Bash is working through significant grief after the loss of his friend and butler, Florian. However, between the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death, burial, and the disposal of his belongings, as well as Bash’s shaken response, there’s more to the story.
Did Florian have AIDS? What does that mean for Bash? Is he mourning his friend or a lover? Is he confused and trying to wrap his head around his sexuality or consciously suppressing something he’s fully aware of but does not want to acknowledge? (Given the aforementioned quickie marriage, methinks the latter).
There’s a lot of material to mine, and I hope GLOW revisits it. It’s some of Lowell’s most interesting, compelling work to date and makes Bash eons more interesting and complex than he initially appeared to be.

There’s also the matter of digging into some of the romantic relationships amongst the group. GLOW, fortunately, is about a lot more than just the romantic relationships of its leading ladies (and men) but at least one relationship begs for some resolution.
Throughout the run of GLOW, there’s been a push-pull between Sam (Marc Maron) and Ruth (Alison Brie). At first, there was a distinct Don Draper-Peggy Olson or Lou Grant-Mary Tyler Moore vibe to their relationship but the second season dropped too many seeds that their relationship is headed a romantic direction, which is admittedly disappointing.
Their dynamic as partners and peers who challenge each other intellectually is compelling, and the thought that this kind of rapport naturally has to be channeled into something sexual or romantic feels reductive and counter to the development they’ve encouraged in each other over the course of the last two seasons.
Ruth’s beau, Russell, isn’t necessarily the perfect partner for her either, and it will be interesting to see how GLOW maneuvers its way through this storyline without blemishing the special connection Ruth and Sam have.

Beyond diving into the inner lives of the rest of the ladies of GLOW (more of Junkchain and Beirut please!) and addressing the aforementioned storylines, there are plenty of new things to look forward to in this upcoming season.
First, the change in scenery as the women of GLOW move on to a Vegas residency could bring new energy to the proceedings.
Vegas essentially functions as a character in and of itself in plenty of television and movie properties (see: Las Vegas, CSI, The Hangover, Casino, Ocean’s Eleven).
Its wily, frenetic culture of excess and adventure is bound to influence, inspire, and challenge its leads, especially as they venture far from home (how Betty Gilpin’s ambitious but guilt-ridden Debbie deals with this environment should be particularly fascinating).

There’s also the addition of Geena Davis as casino entertainment director, Sandy Devereaux St. Clair. Davis, an 80s icon also known for playing strong broads and elevating every television project she has appeared in, feels tailor-made for this show. It’s truly a casting coup. Her character will certainly shake things up — but how exactly?
Everything seems primed to be taken to the next level. Get ready for a glow-up and read on for even more photos, a synopsis, and a trailer for the upcoming third season.
