30 Most Romantic TV Marriage Proposals
Ah, marriage. When it’s right and good the idea of it warms us to our very core. Honestly, the only thing better than the marriage itself is the proposal scene.
Whether it’s a small intimate proposal, seen only by the two involved, or it’s a whole big affair, TV proposals always get our blood pumping. Many of them result in us becoming a messy pile of goo on the floor.
To remind us of all that is lovely and romantic here is a list of our favorite proposals, in no particular order. This post does contain spoilers so tread cautiously.
30 Most Romantic TV Proposals
1. David and Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)

Patrick: And now here he is, the love of my life, standing in front of me. And this just felt like the perfect place to ask you to marry me.
At first glance, David and Patrick from Schitt’s Creek couldn’t be more different from each other. However, when you watch how deeply they care and consider each other in all their decisions you’ll realize that their differences make them a stronger whole.
That’s why on Schitt’s Creek Season 5 Episode 13, “The Hike,” it is so sweet to see their roles flip a little bit during the course of their day. Patrick gets hurt and David has to stop being selfish and sacrifice his disdain of the whole activity to help him. He even goes so far as to apologize for his petty behavior in regards to the whole affair.
The final act of true love comes when David carries Patrick up the mountain to their destination and then insists on Patrick continuing with the picnic. After all, David Rose doesn’t do anything for free and Patrick did promise him food.
Their proposal is a testimony to all that is good and right with their relationship, from Patrick’s attention to detail and David’s willingness to let Patrick under his defenses.
2. Monica and Chandler (Friends)

Chandler: I thought that it mattered what I said or where I said it. But then I realized the only thing that matters is that you make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way.
To be quite honest, I think Monica and Chandler are one of the best couples on Friends. There I said it. They are even better than Ross and Rachel.
Their proposal is a prime example of just why this is so. The whole affair starts off with Monica trying to do the proposing but being unable to continue due to tears. So, Chandler picks it up and struggles through his own tears.
These two are meant to walk this life hand in hand with one another because they are two sides to the same coin. It isn’t easy to handle Monica’s cleaning obsession and Chandler’s wry sense of humor.
However, they always make it work and remain even stronger still. Their proposal and the subsequent marriage proved to fans that these two will go the distance.
3. Magnus and Alec (Shadowhunters)

HARRY SHUM JR., MATTHEW DADDARIO
Magnus: Alexander Gideon Lightwood will you marry me?
Alec: Only if you’ll marry me too.
This is one of the more heartbreaking proposals on the list, only because Magnus immediately has to leave Alec with no return in sight. That being said, these two love birds manage to find a way back to each other and get their own happily ever after.
The whole relationship of Shadowhunters‘ Magnus and Alec has broken down walls between their two worlds and created precedence for acceptance and inclusion. By solidifying their relationship in a marriage, these two show everyone that everything they’ve worked for is not just for show.
The beauty of this proposal is seeing Alec let go of all the walls he has previously placed up out of obligation to his career. Before Magnus, Alec would never admit his true feelings let alone be the one to propose to the man he loves.
Lucky for us, we get to see both men propose to each other.
4. Nathan and Haley (One Tree Hill)

Nathan: Even if I could I wouldn’t take back all the bad stuff that happened between us. Because it brought us here to this moment, this river. Marry me, Haley? Marry me again in front of all our friends and our family?
Haley: Always. Always and forever.
Boy, have these two been through the wringer together; which is a safe assumption for anyone who decides to get married in high school.
However, through it all, they decide to throw caution to the wind and get remarried, once the first one didn’t take. It is a beautiful proposal because it shows just how much Nathan has grown as a person both with Haley and without her.
Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill are still just teenagers, and yet, this proposal makes them sound like they are full-fledged adults. The icing on the cake is, of course, Haley uttering their signature phrase, because without it we don’t believe the proposal is real.
5. Bobby and Athena (9-1-1)

Bobby: I don’t want to take the next step. I want to take every step. With you. For the rest of our lives. Marry me, Athena?
When this pair was first introduced to us at the end of Season 1 of 9-1-1, many fans weren’t sure what to think about it. By the time Bobby proposes to Athena in the mid-Season 2 finale, every fan is on board with their love story.
Despite it being fast and furious, it remains believable. These two support each other in ways that no one else in this world ever could. They know the nature of each other’s jobs and gives the other a shoulder to lean on after a hard day.
This proposal is sweet in its nature because up to this point, Bobby has shown more interest in living in the now, not worrying about a future anything. Athena has changed that in him and made him want all that a future has to offer.
These two are #RelationshipGoals.
6. Barney and Robin (How I Met Your Mother)

Robin: This is proof of why we don’t work; why we’ll never work. So, thank you. You’ve set me free. Because how could I be with a man who thinks that this trick, this enormous lie could ever make me want to date him again.
Barney: Turn it over
*Reads: Step 16: Hope she says yes*
Barney: Robin Scherbatsky, will you marry me?
The most stunning thing about this proposal isn’t the lengths Barney goes to set the stage, it’s actually the fact that Barney goes to them. This whole time Barney has been a self-proclaimed ladies man; one who would never in a million years do the whole marriage thing.
That being said, Robin is actually the same way. She is never a character we envision when we think of marriage and weddings. However, together Barney and Robin find it in themselves to believe in a future where they walk the path together.
This entire proposal is one big play, which is what makes it that much more beautiful. Barney is telling Robin, through his proposal that he doesn’t ever need his playbook ever again. He is devoted to her and her alone.
What’s not to love about that?
7. Michael and Holly (The Office)

Michael: This is where I fell in love with you. And this is where I ask you to marry me.
Michael’s proposal to Holly is romantic and note-worthy because of how much care and attention he puts into it. The Office‘s Michael is usually a character who schemes and fails or messes everything up horribly.
However, in his proposal to Holly, he talks with everyone about what he should or shouldn’t do for the big event. Then he takes their advice and applies it to his plan. When he walks her through the room of Dunder-Mifflin employees who all ask her to marry them, we are unable to keep the tears from our eyes.
Then he brings her to the room of candles and fans are all done for. It’s sweet and grand and very unlike Michael, which truly shows his love for Holly. Of course, there is no way this could be a Michael theatric without at least one hiccup.
Even the sprinklers going off can’t stop this true love from taking the plunge and getting engaged.
8. Casey and Dawson (Chicago Fire)

*Dawson steps onto the roof after her drill and finds a ring. Casey steps onto the roof.*
Casey: Gabby, will you marry me?
Dawson: Yes!
While Casey’s initial marriage proposal on Chicago Fire was romantic enough, it didn’t actually end in an answer. Both of them were called away to a fire which halted anything of the kind.
Therefore, on the heels of losing her best friend Dawson isn’t expecting a retry so soon. Which is what makes this proposal so sweet and romantic.
Casey knows that he wants to spend the rest of his life with Dawson, and he wants her to know. Even when she gets sad about it because the one person she would tell about it is gone, he becomes her rock and tells her that Shay would’ve been so happy for them.
Even though the marriage ends in disaster, this proposal reminds us that once upon a time these two did believe in true love and happiness together. Too bad life got in the way. This fan, however, is still holding out hope for them in the end.
9. Ben and Leslie (Parks and Recreation)

Leslie: What are you doing?
Ben: I’m thinking about my future. I am deeply, ridiculously in love with you. Above everything else I just — I want to be with you forever. So Leslie Knope will you —
Leslie: Wait! Just wait. I need to remember this so give me a second.
Ben: Ok. Leslie —
Leslie: No. No. Hold on. I need another second please. I need to remember every little thing about how perfect my life is right now, at this exact moment.
The entire time fans have known Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation they’ve known that Leslie has the overwhelming need to be in control. So why should her marriage proposal be any different?
Ben is trying so hard to be patient and loving towards Leslie about her shenanigans, but after a little while, anyone can see that he too is frustrated. After all, Leslie keeps preventing him from actually asking her to marry him.
This exchange highlights their dynamic to a comedic T. Leslie needs to have her way with any situation and Ben while put off by it also finds the whole thing charming and endearing. Some might even venture to say that he encourages it from time to time.
In the end, every fan is in tears over the impact Ben’s proposal has on not only Leslie but us as well.
10. Nick and Jess (New Girl)

Nick: I just wanted everything to be perfect.
Jess: But it is perfect. I mean it’s us, so this is as perfect as it gets.
Nick: Jessica Day, will you mary me?
For New Girl‘s Nick and Jess, their proposal was a series of hilarious misses that almost discouraged Nick from continuing to even try. It’s great that he didn’t give up though because the end result was sweet and very in tune with who they are as a couple.
Even better is all their friends are able to bear witness to the whole proposal after having helped Nick to get to that finish line. While intimate proposals are great, for Nick and Jess their friends are their family and to have them there is the icing on the cake.
It’s clear from the lead up to the proposal that Nick and Jess are perfect for each other just in the way they work together and know little nuances of one another. As Jess says, their proposal may be less than ideal but it is perfect for them.
11. Meredith and Derek (Grey’s Anatomy)

Derek: If there’s a crisis you don’t freeze, you move forward. You get the rest of us to move forward because you’ve seen worse, you’ve survived worse. And you know we’ll survive too. You say you’re all dark and twisty, it’s not a flaw. It’s a strength. It makes you who you are. I’m not gonna get down on one knee. I’m not gonna ask a question. I love you, Meredith Grey and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
When it comes to grand gestures, this one takes the cake. On Grey’s Anatomy, no couple is more popular than Meredith Grey and Derek Shepard, a.k.a. Dr. McDreamy. So, it’s no surprise that their proposal scene is a fan favorite.
Who doesn’t want to get proposed to in an elevator full of CT scans to mark all the important steps of your relationship? What’s even better about this proposal is that Derek doesn’t actually ask the question.
He simply tells Meredith that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her in the hopes that she agrees. Obviously, she does and nothing else on this show can top that proposal ever. Except maybe their post-it marriage, but that’s for another list entirely.
12. Connor and Oliver (How to Get Away With Murder)

Connor: This is a twisty-tie that I took off our loaf of bread. Which speaks to one of the reasons I love you. You’re a gay man who eats bread and encourages me to eat bread too. You let me be me, but you make me a better version of me. I never thought that I could be this guy and I don’t want to wait anymore. I want you. Marry me, Oliver Hampton. Marry me so I can spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you make me.
Connor’s original proposal is way more emotional and wordy, and the re-marriage proposal is short and sweet. If we take both proposals into account we have the perfect recipe for who Connor and Oliver are as a couple.
As many couples on How to Get Away With Murder are, sometimes Connor and Oliver are over the top both dramatically and romantically. That’s not to say they can’t also be quiet and subtle.
Oliver is the first relationship Connor has had where he feels compelled to be vulnerable. So naturally, when he bares all of that vulnerability in his first proposal there is none left when he decides calling off the wedding wasn’t a great idea after all.
Either way, Oliver knows how to keep Connor grounded and at his most honest, which is saying something on a show all about lying and living with your lies.
13. Sheldon and Amy (The Big Bang Theory)

Sheldon: Amy. Amy. Amy.
*opens door*
Sheldon: Will you marry me?
Since the beginning of The Big Bang Theory, no one really expected Sheldon to find love, let alone go on that journey towards forever with someone. Then he met Amy.
Amy and Sheldon are constantly trying to figure out the proper ins and outs of their relationship. It isn’t every day that someone can come along and put up with Sheldon’s specific idiosyncrasies. However, Amy can and does with the patience of what can only be described as a saint.
So when Sheldon shows up at her door and proposes, it isn’t over the top, but it is in true Sheldon fashion. He doesn’t wait for her to even greet him before he pops the question. Their love is one for the ages and the simplicity of their proposal illustrates that perfectly.
14. Matt and Julie (Friday Night Lights)

Matt: Julie, ever since you came to Chicago. I’ve been thinking about you, about us. And that was perfect. And know how much I love you. And I wanna be with you forever. So, this is grandma’s. Julie Taylor, w-will you marry me?
From the very beginning, Friday Night Lights is about more than just football. And from the very beginning, Matt Saracen stole everyone’s hearts with his humble, gentle nature. He is thrown into being a quarterback when he lacks the leadership skills to do so, yet he manages to succeed spectacularly.
Despite all of this, he wins the heart of the coach’s daughter, Julie. Their love story spans the whole series and is epic and beautiful. They are the perfect image of small-town sweethearts.
So when Matt comes back to town and proposes to Julie in front of the Alamo Freeze it melts everyone’s heart. Though his proposal is far from smooth — when has Matt ever been smooth though — it still cements itself amongst some of television’s greatest.
15. Dexter and Rita (Dexter)

Dexter: My life has always felt like an unanswered question. A string of days and nights waiting for something to happen but I didn’t know what. Rita, we’re connected. Wherever I am, I feel you, and the kids, with me. You’re what makes me real. I want us to always go out for banana splits, and replant the lemon tree that keeps dying. And I never, ever want to miss pizza night. That’s how I know I want to marry you.
The Dexter marriage proposal is one for the history books because it speaks volumes in how simple it truly is. Dexter is a serial killer who struggles to understand emotions, and yet Rita makes him feel all of them.
At one point he realizes that he actually loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. To Dexter, Rita signifies all that is good in his life and the proof that he could be a decent person as long as he continues to try.
By also including her children in his proposal, Dexter shows Rita that he means what he says and that her kids are part of the equation too. She is completely taken by surprise which makes the whole scene that much sweeter.
Too bad, Dexter really is a serial killer and causes chaos to reign down on their family ending in tragedy. Luckily for him — and us — for one brief moment in time Dexter is in love and “normal”.
16. Kevin and Scotty (Brothers and Sisters)

Kevin: I realize how lucky I am because I get to come home to someone who is kind, and caring and who changes the light bulbs. And marry me?
One of primetime television’s first healthy examples of a domestic, gay relationship has the most inauspicious marriage proposal scenes of all time. Coincidentally, this is also what makes it the most romantic.
During Brothers and Sisters second season, Kevin comes home from a crazy day to find that one of the things Scotty asked him to do is already done. Instead of Scotty being upset that he had to do it, he tells Kevin it wasn’t a big deal.
This stops Kevin in his tracks of complaining about whatever family drama is going on that week to look his boyfriend full in the face and propose. It’s so unexpected Scotty thinks he’s done so because Scotty changed the light bulbs.
This is perfect imagery of who Kevin and Scotty are as a couple and why fans love them so much. Kevin is definitely high strung, but Scotty always manages to bring him back down to earth. It’s how they manage to make it through when every relationship around them is constantly crashing into spectacular dumpster fires.
17. Beth and Randall (This Is Us)

Beth: Alright, now before you do this. We’re not going to lose ourselves in each other. We’re gonna be full people. Equals. We’re a team. Alright! Go ahead!
Randall: Beth Clarke. You are the love of my life. You are my reason. You are my joy. You are my everything. And I don’t want to do life without you. So, will you marry me?
Viewers get to see Randall’s many proposals to Beth in a series of flashbacks on This Is Us Season 3 Episode 17, “R&B.” They are awkward, to say the least. But they also epitomize the couple perfectly.
Randall deserves credit for his lack of subtlety. How much more clearly can you express what you want than playing Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married” while you propose? But Beth deserves equal credit for her directness and ability to recognize the right time for engagement no matter how long they had been together.
Sex is probably never the best time to propose because you are caught up in other activities. But every woman has a right to say no when she learns that her man is telling his mother details about every time he proposes. She’s right. Randall does consume things and she does have the right to decide when and how she is proposed to.
So, pulling him away from their Sunday night date with his mother so she can take him to her favorite restaurant to eat and then giving him a lecture about being a team before she tells him to propose may not be the perfect way to propose in Randall’s mind. But Beth can always be counted on to get things done and this was the right time to get the proposal done.
18. Felicity and Oliver (Arrow)

Felicity: If you really don’t mind, but would you marry us too? Will you marry me?
Oliver: I thought, I mean I thought you didn’t believe in marriage?
Felicity: No, but I believe in you. I believe that no matter what life throws at us our love can conquer it. Married or unmarried. I love you. My greatest fear in life is losing you.
Oliver: Yes.
19. Jake and Amy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Jake: You might want to read the inscription on that there belt.
Amy: What? Why? *reads* Amy Santiago will you marry me?
These two are the sweetest, most beloved couple of recent television history. They are the perfect halves of a whole. This proposal really just proves how far they have come in their relationship, and it’s nice to see a real one play out between them after all the fake ones fans have laid witness to.
When they started Amy would have found Jake’s actions annoying and probably would have scoffed at his proposal. Now, she finds it lovely and funny and the right amount of romantic to tickle her heart.
Jake and Amy are a couple that will go the distance because they aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves. They never let the universe tell them how they should be or who they should be like. Jake and Amy are just Jake and Amy.
20. Valencia and Beth (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)

Valencia: Will you?
Beth: Valencia, yes.
Their proposal, shown on the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend series finale, is subtle and intimate but romantic just the same. These two characters found their way together so to see them take that next big step is really sweet and gives us hope.
It would’ve been nice to see them grow even more as characters in further episodes, but for a finale, this is a beautiful open ending to their relationship. It shows just how much they love one another and how far they still have to journey, together.
This proposal isn’t some grand gesture and instead is simple and just between them. It’s beautiful and shouldn’t be understated because it’s showing the world that LGBT couples have love journeys that mirror those of straight couples.
21. Stef and Lena (The Fosters)

Stef: Will you marry me?
Lena: I thought you’d never ask.
Stef: Neither did I.
While this first proposal, while Stef is in a hospital bed recovering, is more of an anti-climatic proposal it still remains one of the most powerful The Fosters moments ever. The only other moments that overshadow it are the second proposal scene and the wedding.
I chose this scene to highlight because it is what began it all for these two lovely women. Their love had been enough to sustain them through years of co-parenting and fostering. Now they want to take it to the next level because they realize their love deserves that.
A few years later when Stef and Lena sit down to discuss renewing their vows, it’s Stef’s speech about their marriage being a statement that had fans sobbing their eyes out. These women stood the test of time and parenting to come out the other side stronger and happier together.
22. Barry and Iris (The Flash)

Barry: *sings* All my life I promise to keep running home, home to you. Can’t say how the days will unfold. Can’t change what the future may hold. But I want you in it. Every hour, every minute.
Barry: Iris West, will you marry me?
Who doesn’t want to be serenaded by their significant other? Better yet, who doesn’t want that serenade to be your proposal?
When Barry decides to propose to his girlfriend, Iris, on The Flash he decides that doing so through song is the most romantic way. Judging by the look on her face as he starts to sing to her and when she realizes that he is also proposing, it’s easy to see that the move was a success.
Even the first proposal where Barry tells her the story of the ring that belonged to his great-grandparents is bound to turn anyone to goo. However, this one nudges it out just a little bit because of how simple and beautiful it was.
From the very beginning, Barry has been in love with Iris. Their love story is one of initial frustration and missed opportunities that soon turned into an epic journey of love. These two are going to stay the course because they love, respect, and support each other in all that they do.
23. Chuck and Sarah (Chuck)

Chuck, more than anything, is the saga of the love between Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walker.
Season Four’s first half spends a long time on Chuck’s plan to propose and overcoming hurdles to get there. When the proposal finally happens, in the hospital after Chuck’s niece Clara was born, viewers already know that Sarah and Chuck want to get married.
So the proposal is simple, sweet, and wordless, and kicks off the even more emotional wedding saga. Chuck’s proposal to Sarah is a strong culmination of these characters relationship, despite its simplicity.
24. Piper and Alex (Orange Is The New Black)

Piper: You have taught me that love hurts. You have taught me that life…it hurts. And I want to be there for you. I want us to be there for each other so that maybe it hurts a little less. Alex Pearl Vause.
Alex: Yes, Piper Elizabeth Chapman?
Piper: Will you be my partner through love and through pain and through beauty fish forever?
On Orange Is The New Black life and love are never easy. A perfect example of that is the love story between Piper and Alex.
These two have been to hell and back together; from crazy schemes to prison antics they’ve seen it all. Even though their actions have led to some betrayals on both sides, Piper and Alex know that their love is the one thing they can trust in this world.
So, when Piper decides to ask Alex to marry her it comes as no surprise to anyone. Their proposal and wedding may happen behind bars, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still unique to them and romantic as hell. Just watching the way they look at each other as the proposal happens is enough to make your heart explode.
25. Sam and Andy (Rookie Blue)

Sam: Marry me, McNally.
Andy: Oh my god.
Sam: McNally?
Andy: Yes!
Andy and Sam are one of those couples that fans fell in love with on day one. From the moment Andy screws up Sam’s undercover operation in the pilot of Rookie Blue, the chemistry between the two of them is electric.
Over the course of six seasons, every possible obstacle appears to keep these two apart. Every time it seems like maybe things will work out, something else comes along to complicate their relationship.
So the moment when Sam finally finds himself on one knee, with an idyllic lake behind him and love glistening in his eyes, it’s perfection. It’s quite literally the moment everyone’s been waiting for.
26. Booth and Brennan (Bones)

Booth: Bones, if I ask you to marry me will you say yes?
Brennan: If I say yes will we get married?
Booth: Yes.
This couple is one of the biggest “will they / won’t they” couples of the modern era, especially when it came time for marriage. On Bones, Agent Seely Booth and Temperance Brennan have always been great for each other, whether they saw it or not.
For many years they went back and forth with so much chemistry fans were pulling their hair out waiting for them to get together. Then when they finally did the urgency turned into a question of when will they get married.
It may have taken 9 seasons for fans to get to that happy moment, but it was well worth the wait. After a mastermind criminal tells Booth to call of the initial engagement or risk losing multiple people, fans worried they would never actually get engaged.
Then Brennan took it upon herself to take down Pelant, and when she did it convinced Booth to try the proposal thing again. Their proposal is short and sweet and very much in sync with who they are as a couple. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
27. Castle and Beckett (Castle)

Castle: I’ve decided I want more. We both deserve more.
Beckett: I agree.
Castle: So whatever happens, whatever you decide, Catherine Beckett will you marry me?
The sweetest thing about this proposal is that Beckett goes into it thinking Castle is going to break up with her. It’s the look of shock and surprise on her face when he instead proposes that melts all our collective hearts.
Castle and Beckett spend all of the series, Castle, going from reluctant coworkers to friends and finally to lovers. It’s a journey all the fans love and even rooted for from the beginning.
Their proposal is one of the most understated ones on all of television, but it’s romantic and sweet just the same. It shows that no matter what Castle is still able to surprise Beckett, which everyone wants in their relationship.
28. Luke and Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)

Luke: This is her dream! I won’t let it happen!
Lorelai: Luke, will you marry me?
Luke: What?
Lorelai: Luke, will you —
Luke: Yes.
There will never again be a couple quite like Gilmore Girls‘ Luke and Lorelai. They were hot and cold more times than fans could even count, but in the end, they belonged to each other.
When Lorelai proposes to Luke it’s said so in a manner that is similar to announcing she wants a coffee. There is no fanfare, there is no big deal made. It’s just Luke and Lorelai sitting at the cafe while Luke animatedly talks about preventing Rory from dropping out.
Afterward, the two stand there and talk about what had just happened as if they both couldn’t really believe it. In true Lorelai fashion, she starts to second guess herself, but Luke steps in and tells her she hasn’t messed it up. He just wanted to be sure that she was sure it was the right time.
These two spell love everlasting in the simplest of ways. It’s what we truly love so much about them.
29. Jim and Pam (The Office)

Pam: What are you doing?
Jim: I just couldn’t wait.
Pam: Oh my god.
Jim: Pam, will you marry me?
Pam: Oh my god!
From the very beginning of The Office, everyone could tell that Jim loved Pam. However, it took a little longer for Pam to show that she loved him as well.
Over the seasons their love is one of the most romantic things about the show itself. There is just something so sweet and wholesome about Jim and Pam. They are so sweet it’ll give you cavities.
Their proposal while at a gas station and in the rain is still hands down a fan favorite of all time. Jim asks Pam to meet him halfway between their locations when Pam starts working a job in another town. She is a little frustrated with him at first, but that all blows out the window when he gets down on one knee right there and proposes.
It’s a simple, yet romantic proposal that culminates an already super romantic love story. All because Jim loved Pam so much he couldn’t wait until New York.
30. Jo and Alex (Grey’s Anatomy)

Jo: I always thought there was something wrong with me and I always wanted to run. Until I met you. You’re so screwed up that you make me make sense. You and me, we just fit. And I don’t want to leave you Alex. I want a great big giant career but, I never want to go anywhere without you. You are my home. And you are my heart. Alex Karev, will you marry me?
On paper, Jo and Alex, from Grey’s Anatomy, are two characters that don’t make sense together because they are too much alike. But look below the surface and you will find that they work because they are so similar.
Alex has never been able to hold onto a serious relationship for long before he lets his own insecurities and stubborn attitude get in the way. Jo has never been willing to give her whole self to someone else because she always felt she was too damaged. Then they meet each other and suddenly the world makes sense.
That is not to say these two haven’t had their share of struggles, what great couple hasn’t? Through it all, Alex never lets Jo believe she isn’t worthy of love and Jo never lets Alex believe he’s too messed up for anything good.
Their proposal as unorthodox as it is, really highlights what makes them great. Not to mention, Jo taking charge of it shows so much character growth for her that it melts our cold, dead hearts.
