TV News Wrap-Up: Big Little Lies Drops Season 2 Trailer, Fox Cancels ‘The Gifted’, 3 Stars Exit Chicago Franchise
With summer programming nearly upon us, new trailers and premiere dates are becoming as common as season finales. While it may be the end of the road for some of our favorite shows, others are just gearing up to captivate us all over again.

Teasers & Trailers
The first trailer for Big Little Lies has dropped and with it the premiere date for Season 2. HBO has announced that the series will premiere on Sunday, June 9th at 9/8c. The cabler has also released the first trailer for the season which features the likes of Meryl Strep and Mary Louise Wright.
Chad Michael Murray teases Edgar’s ominous agenda in his upcoming Riverdale arc. Murray talks about playing Edgar Evernever in a TV Line interview where he discusses Edgar’s motivations and previews a showdown with Betty. Not only will we learn Edgar’s hidden agenda for the farm soon enough, but Murray also hints at the possibility of learning more about Edgar’s relationship with his daughter Evelyn and her “place in the entire operation” in upcoming episodes. As for Evelyn’s absent mother, “Mrs. Evernever is to come,” Murray promises fans.

iZombie teases what to expect in its fifth and final season. On Friday, CW released a teaser for the network’s hit zom-com-rom-dram. The premiere will air Thursday, May 2 at 8/7c. and while we know very little about this newest season, we do know Season 5 will consist of 13 episodes and that Liv is now a “rebel without a cure” according to the teaser’s tagline. Renewals and Cancellations
Manifest will return for a second season on NBC. On Monday, the network announced that its top-rated freshman drama would be returning and while Manifest Season 1 was 16 episodes in length there is no word yet on a second season episode count. TV Line reports that as far as ratings go, “Among all of NBC’s dramas, it tied Chicago Med and Chicago Fire for second in the demo (well behind This Is Us) while ranking fifth in total audience.”

Hulu has renewed Shrill for Season 2. Exactly one month after the Aidy Bryant series debuted, the streaming service announced that it would pick up the show for a second season. According to TV Line there is no news about how the renewal will affect Aidy’s storyline, but what we do know is that the second season will consist of eight episodes.

The Gifted has been cancelled after two seasons on Fox. On Wednesday, the network gave word they would be axing the Marvel mutant drama set in the X-Men universe after less than super ratings. According to TV Line, Season 2 of the series averaged less than 2 million viewers, having dropped 40 percent from its freshman run. With the smallest audience of all Fox’s 10 dramas, The Gifted couldn’t seem to save itself from certain demise.

Casting News
A Pearson is making their way to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3. Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall Pearson on This Is Us, is heading to New York to shoot a role in the third season of the Amazon Prime series. Brown stated in a Twitter video on Monday: “I’m going to do a little TV show, maybe you’ve heard of it: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Palladinos were kind enough to write a little something for your boy, and I said yes. So, stay tuned. I’m getting together with Midge and it’s going to be awesome.”

Speaking of Pearsons, Suits spinoff snags Betsy Brandt in a recurring role. According to TVLine, The Life in Pieces and Breaking Bad star will join the USA Network’s upcoming Suits spinoff titled Pearson as the wife of Chicago’s mayor, played by Homeland‘s Morgan Spector. Brandt’s character Stephanie Novak will come into this series as a former lawyer who is now a full-time mother and loyal behind-the-scenes spouse. Pearson is set to follow Gina Torres as she steps back into her role as Suits character Jessica Pearson.

One Chicago is losing three of its stars. On Friday news dropped that Jon Seda would be leaving Chicago P.D. after six seasons, while Chicago Med‘s Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling are exiting the hospital drama after this current fourth season. Deadline reports that the cast departures are due to “creative reasons related to the characters’ story evolution”. Donnell has since released a statement confirming his departure, which you can read in full here. Fear not though, Chicago Fire fans, all of the series’ stars will be returning next season.
