TV News Wrap-Up: The Fight to Save ‘Wynonna Earp’ Begins, ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Trailer Drops, and David Boreanaz Teases Possible ‘Angel’ Reunion
According to the calendar, it’s officially spring, which means it’s time for networks to start dropping teasers to their summer shows.
Of course, there is always the bittersweet news of cancellations. Two beloved shows have announced their final seasons, and one show is fighting for survival as they look for funds to keep the show afloat for promised future seasons.

Teasers & Spoilers
The first trailer for Stranger Things Season 3 dropped this week and we’re definitely excited about it. The trailer has a lot to be excited about this year including Joyce and Hopper potentially acknowledging their feelings for each other, Max and Eleven being friends, and exploring more of Hawkins. Check out the trailer below. Stranger Things Season 3 premieres July 4th.
Emily Deschanel is making an appearance in the TNT series Animal Kingdom Season 4. A TV Line exclusive provides the first image of Deschanel in her first TV gig since Bones wrapped. Deschanel will be playing Angela who has recently been released from prison, and who is the former BFF of Pope’s late sister. Angela is a recovering addict who shows up trying to work her way back into the family’s good graces.

Netflix dropped the trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part II. The newest offering shows the teenage witch premieres April 5th and shows a darker version of Sabrina who seems to have accepted her fate after her Dark Baptism.
Casting News
The Perry Mason limited series starring Matthew Rhys has been formally greenlit by HBO. TV Line reports that Rhys will also serve as producer in the series about the legendary fictional criminal defense lawyer. Rhys will play Mason during a time in his life when he is living check-to-check in as a low-rent private investigator. He is also haunted by his memorie of France during World War I and suffering from the effects of a broken marriage.

Katherine Heigl is eyeing a CBS return in a new comedy pilot Our House. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heigl joins Malcolm Barrett as headliners in the comedy series. This will be Heigl’s first series-regular role in a half-hour comedy. Our House is the story of a devoted mother and father (Heigl and Barrett) who are committed to raising their children with the love and support their mother never got as a kid. Things get difficult with her insane parents and siblings back in the picture.

Lizzie Caplan will head up Castle Rock Season 2 as budding psychopath Annie Wilkes. According to Variety, Hulu announced its Season 2 cast for their Misery-themed second season. Season 2 will feature the nurse from hell getting waylaid in Castle Rock “as a feud between warring clans comes to a boil.”

Production News
The fight to save Wynonna Earp is on. Filming has stalled on the newest season of the series, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, IDW Publishing, who owns the rights to Wynonna Earp, is having trouble finding the capital to produce the promised fourth and fifth season of the show. Fans of the show have acted swiftly created the FightforWynonna.com and raising money for billboards in New York and Los Angeles. Adam Wyden, the founder of the New York-based hedge-fund ADW, which owns 9 percent of IDW Publishing says, “I think if all these Wynonna Earp people really want it to come back, they should be emailing Netflix and saying, ‘Pick up the international rights, that’s what I would do.”

An Angel reunion might be in the works. Deadline reports that series star, David Boreanaz appeared on The Talk last Tuesday saying that one of TV’s favorite vampires may be returning. Boreanaz said, “So, I will say there may be something coming up. I don’t want to give away much. I can say, it’s 20 years coming up this fall and we may have something in the works.”

When Calls the Heart is ‘not canceled’ despite Lori Loughlin’s Hallmark ouster. TV Line reports that Executive Producers Brian Bird posted via Instagram saying, “With the full support of the network, we have gone on a creative hiatus to do some retooling on the [seven] remaining Season 6 episodes. That process has already begun. Hope Valley will return to your TV screens as soon as we can bring the episodes to you.”

Netflix has ordered a coming-of-age comedy series based on Mindy Kaling’s life. Deadline reports that the 10-episode series “is about the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl, inspired by Kaling’s own childhood.” The series is as-yet-untitled.

Renewals and Cancellations
The CW announced that Supernatural will end with Season 15. TV Line reports the long-running supernatural drama will come to an end with a twenty-episode final season next year. Series stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki commented on the show’s end on Twitter this Friday. Jensen Ackles says, “Fifteen years of a show that has certainly changed my life… And we just wanted you to hear from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale. The big, grand finale of an institution.”

Schitt’s Creek has been renewed for a sixth and final season. The fan favorite’s six season is currently in pre-production and will begin shooting in a few weeks. The show’s creators, father-and-son duo Dan and Eugene Levy, posted a note on Instagram thanking fans and letting them know that the next season will be it’s last. ABC announced that The Connors will be back for Season 2, with more episodes added to its order. Deadline reports that ABC has renewed the comedy for a second season. The size of the season order has not been revealed by ABC, but it’s been speculated that the order will be slightly expanded to 13, upped from Season 1’s 11-episode order.
