Shadowhunters Review: To The Night Children (Season 3 Episode 15)

Reviews, Shadowhunters

Clary begins to feel the side effects of the rune she shares with Jonathan and Magnus gets a taste of what it’s like to live at the institute as a warlock. Meanwhile, Heidi manipulates her situation in her favor on Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 15, “To The Night Children.”

Heidi’s been a problem the entire time of knowing her, which is why I am happy that she’s finally out of the game and can no longer hurt anybody. It’s sweet justice that Maia is the one who gets to kill Heidi, especially after killing her entire pack and getting away with it thanks to Alec.

Alec and Simon need to stop being such goody two shoes about everything because sometimes rules need to be broke. Heidi personally tortured Simon’s family, and yet he still has a problem with Maia taking her out, why? I get it, killing isn’t needed for everything, but someone who’s escaped your grasps many times before and is on the warpath needs to be put down.

SHADOWHUNTERS – “To the Night Children” – As the saying goes, “rules are made to be broken.” But what if the rules are there for a reason? Several members of the team must examine the reasoning behind certain rules after consequences to questionable actions come to light. Whether the rules were broken because of love, loyalty or revenge, does the end justify the means? This episode of “Shadowhunters” airs Monday, March 25 (8:00 – 9:01 P.M. EDT) on Freeform. Maia witnessed her entire pack get slaughtered and watched Jordan almost die in her arms, so she doesn’t need extra heat from the people she loves. Now that Luke is basically giving up his life to the police because of some self-resentment she has nothing holding her to the city anymore.

I think Maia should leave town to regroup and take a relaxing vacation somewhere because she deserves it.

Out of everyone, I think that Raphael is one of the characters with the best arc, even if we don’t get to see him anymore. He began as this cold, ruthless vampire leader who didn’t let anyone get in his way. He’s moved on from that person, his past is something that haunts him, and now he lives a life where he tries to make up for it.

Yes, he did unspeakable things, and Izzy let him leave, but that’s because she truly knows him and knows that he was done with his ways. He’s proven himself to actually be over his bad streak, even applying holy water to himself at night when he prays. It’s upsetting to see that the clave has him now and we’ll probably never get to see him again.

I hope that this isn’t signaling Raphael’s leave from the show and that we still get to see him and Izzy reunite again. Raphael has changed his life around and deserves a second chance.

Magnus is an asset who has helped the institute more times than I can count, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a warlock living in a home for shadowhunters. Everywhere he goes he’s given weird looks because he’s not supposed to be there and Alec doesn’t realize it until way later.

Using the magic that Lorenzo gave Magnus, he hasn’t been able to perform spells without getting sonic feedback afterward. Lorenzo warned Magnus that there could be some issues, but Magnus’ life revolves around magic so much there’s no way he could resist continuing to use it.

I wish that instead of keeping it a secret Magnus had been open with Alec beforehand about what was happening when he used the magic. Had he told someone they might’ve been able to look into it further before it made him go into shock.

Magnus and Alec have had a healthy relationship for a while, and now Alec is pushing for the next move; moving in together. Obviously, Magnus going into some sort of magic shock is going to delay them moving in together, but once he’s all better, he’ll have Alec there to take care of him whenever he needs.

I think it’s adorable and heartfelt that Alec is the one who brings up moving in together because he’s completely willing to leave the institute to be with him. This way they’ll both be able to leave their jobs at home somewhat.

Every day the rune that Jonathan and Clary share brings them closer and closer, so close that it looks like Clary is beginning to behave as if she was a demon in Edom. Jonathan has the part of him that is complete monster already figured out, but Clary is just now getting a taste at another side of her.

Aline Penhallow can choke. She is manipulative and knows what’s she’s doing by baiting Clary with talks of her helping Jonathan escape and wishing Jonathan could feel the pain she’s inflicting on Clary.

Threatening to report someone for beating you up after you provoked and began the assault is such a weak, childish move. She can go back to Idris, where she probably works for her mother, and never come back.
