Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 12 Review: Get Lucky
Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 12, “Get Lucky,” picks up the pace with complicated cases, competition, and chaos. There’s also plenty of relationship drama, including a bit of whiplash when it comes to one particular couple.
Grey’s is often at its best when it centers itself on its medical storylines and how those affect the doctors. Teddy’s heart patient is the first example.
Though on the previous episode, Teddy insisted that the new procedure she and Winston developed for Nora wasn’t appropriate for Corban, things took a turn, and it’s now his only chance.

The risk of it all makes Teddy panic, along with the guilt of not doing that procedure in the first place. This also causes tension between Teddy and Winston, but Winston ultimately admits his biggest issue wasn’t that she, perhaps, made the wrong call, but rather that she dismissed his opinion entirely.
Thankfully, and after some dramatic blood spatter in the OR, the procedure is once again a success. It’s a gratifying moment after quite a bit of suspense, and Winston suggests that they could do even more with this procedure if they can truly work as a team.
Meanwhile, it seems like everyone is trying to impress the new plastics attending.
Bailey helps Ben with this a bit, talking up his strengths in a way that winds up being pretty awkward, but ultimately helps — his experience as a firefighter is exactly what makes him useful in a case that pulls Dr. Wright away from another patient.

Wright and Ben leave Jules and Dr. Mohanty to finish up a surgery, but they make a fatal mistake. Perhaps it’s because there’s some distraction. After all, Mohanty is angry with Jules for making her look bad, and unfairly so.
She finally explains why — that she needs a recommendation from Wright in order to land a fellowship in Boston — and Jules says she should have just told her that from the beginning.
So, when they realize the mistake that was made in surgery, and Dr. Wright scolds them for it, Jules stands up for Mohanty. The problem is that it looks like she could wind up taking the fall in a bigger way because of it.
It’s this kind of competition that creates real stakes for the doctors. It doesn’t make me love Mohanty, though. (PS: Is everyone just going to Boston now?)

ANITA KALATHARA
Dr. Toni Wright isn’t just having an impact on what’s happening at the hospital, of course. She’s also a new love interest for Amelia.
Because of past heartbreak, though, Amelia is slow to open up about her family life, stopping herself when she nearly reveals to Toni that she has a son.
That was a dealbreaker in the past, but she chooses honesty by the end of the episode, and it’s a good thing she does. Toni has a child, too. It’s really nice to see something positive like this for Amelia, and her willingness to open up instead of running away shows tremendous growth for her character.

So it seems that as one relationship is beginning, another ending. Teddy and Owen have signed their divorce papers, ending yet another marriage for Owen Hunt and leaving things feeling pretty bleak.
Yet, at the end of the episode, it’s clear that there’s still something left between them. Teddy comments on how Owen always believes in her, no matter what, and then they kiss. Like I said at the beginning of this review: whiplash.
It’s been exhausting seeing their marriage fall apart, with an initial conflict that felt a little like it came out of nowhere. I don’t think it would be a bad thing to see them reconcile once and for all instead of ending their relationship. It would, however, be frustrating to continue to see them go back and forth.
Other thoughts:
- Jo and Link get a break from the babies on this episode, but not to go to the hospital. Instead, they go to Link’s “rental property,” which is actually his other house that he’s been using as a secret getaway. If you ask me, Jo lets him off the hook for this way too easily.
- After trying to contact Lucas multiple times throughout the day, Katie is brought to the hospital, unable to breathe. Lucas blames Bailey, who responds by telling him he needs a break from her case. He’s too personally invested — which is clear by the look on his face when she arrives on that ambulance.
- I love that Meredith’s house is still home base for the interns, and it’s fun to watch the chaos of their relationships and slip-ups.
