Chicago Med Review: All the Lonely People (Season 4 Episode 10)
Our favorite Chicago Gaffney staff are back, and they bring plenty of drama, tension, and shocking reveals on Chicago Med Season 4 Episode 10, “All The Lonely People.”
The lively and fast-paced return from hiatus brings with it some changes and issues, from the med students dealing with mental illness to Will’s return from protective custody.
The opening act alone sets the tone for the rest of the hour as Connor and Ava seem to adorably settle into something that begins to look like a legitimate relationship, and April, along with a pair of ED nurses, ends up being shot at.

Both moments launch those two separate stories, leaving them in completely different places by the end of the hour than I would expect.
Seeing Connor and Ava being adorable and very much together is initially very sweet. It makes the uncomfortable inkling that perhaps Ava bargained more than I thought she did back on Chicago Med Season 4 Episode 1, “Be My Better Half,” get pushed further away.
But of course, that all blows up spectacularly in the final moments, when Connor’s dad makes it as clear as day exactly what Ava traded away for that Hybrid OR check — and just like that, the uncomfortable, borderline icky feeling surfaces again.

To add insult to injury, Ava essentially furthers Connor’s rift with his father, telling him that his father his lying.
The confirmation is a line crossed that will not only end badly for their relationship but could also jeopardize their working relationship when the truth inevitably rears its head. It makes me wonder what’s ahead for these two and where they go from here — especially Ava.

While it looks like the beginning of a potentially turbulent time for Connor and Ava, April and Ethan must deal with some residual feelings as a patient shoots at a few nurses. The one nurse who gets hit is April.
Even when Ethan tries to convince others that it’s really over between him and April, there’s no hiding his concern and his personal and professional feelings conflicting when it comes to treating the gunman.
Ethan: He hurt someone I care about. He hurt you.
There’s a lot of tension between the pair. But the moment he actually verbalizes his reason for inevitably treating April’s shooter, it becomes clear that it’s not the easiest choice. Despite telling Vicki that there’s nothing there, there is definitely a glimmer of something he still feels for April for him to say those words.
While most of the hour focuses on April, Ethan, and that patient, as well as setting the tone for Connor and Ava’s relationship, we get a follow up on the fall out of Will and Natalie’s wedding that never was on Chicago Med Season 4 Episode 9, “Death Do Us Part.”
Will’s return marks the beginning of what looks like a tense time for Will and Nat. While it’s great to see Natalie getting mad about having choices that should have been theirs to make taken away from her, the quick movement forward is a bit disconcerting.

I hope that it’s not just swept under the rug, leaving them to work through Will’s trauma (which obviously is going to be a big issue moving forward) without consideration of what happened leading up to the trauma.
Random Thoughts:
- I’m glad that even with Dr. Charles trying to reach out to the gunman, they still have him get taken into custody, especially considering what we learn about him throughout the hour. There’s no excusing or rationalizing that kind of behavior or thought process, so it’s honestly a relief to see it play out the way it does.
- Having Dr. Charles and med student Elsa confront issues of depression feels like a hint of something stirring for Dr. Charles if that final scene on the bridge is any indication. But where is it heading?
- How long before Ava’s secret comes out and, how will it come out?
- Is it really over between April and Ethan?
