30 Favorite TV Couples from 2018
Love is the driving force behind so many parts of the human experience, and watching two people fall in love is part of what makes us invest so deeply in our favorite television shows. 2018 brought us epic love stories and new romances, more LGBTQ+ couples than ever, and an upswing of happily ever afters.
The following couples brought us joy and moved us to tears. They warmed our hearts and made us believe in the power of love.
Here’s a look at our favorite TV couples from 2018, in no particular order.
1. Marcus and Abby (The 100)

Marcus Kane and Abby Griffin’s relationship has seen multiple apocalypses, cannibalism, addiction, and enough war to last a lifetime, and yet through all that, their love for each other has only grown stronger. They have seen each other at their absolute worst and rather than turning away, Kane and Abby held onto each other that much tighter.
Abby: Strike me down or get the hell out, because I’m saving the man that I love.
The horrors they faced inside the bunker and the war for Eden immediately following would have driven lesser couples to their end, but Kane and Abby let their love for each other be a light in all of that darkness.
Kane and Abby embody what it means to commit yourself to another person for better or worse, in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others. They’ve killed for each other, they would die for each other, they keep each other going and make each other better people.
No matter what awaits them on the other side of 125 years in cryosleep, Kane and Abby will face it together.
2. Cheryl and Toni (Riverdale)

Cheryl Blossom and Toni Topaz light each other up literally every time they’re in a room together on Riverdale. The show’s resident queens of deserving more screen time are also Riverdale’s own favorite power couple. Toni brings out a softness and a passion in Cheryl that was always lurking beneath the surface, just waiting for the right person to come along.
Toni: You’re not loveless, you’re not deviant. Okay? You’re sensational.
With Toni, Cheryl is really truly happy for quite possibly the first time in her life. Their relationship is warm, joyful, and exciting; all things that young love should be, which is surprisingly rare for a show filled with teen relationships.
Cheryl and Toni see each other like no one else sees either of them. Riverdale may not always make sense, but this relationship definitely does.
3. Jake and Amy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Jake and Amy have one of the “noicest” relationships in all of sitcom history. Ross and Rachel who? These “partners-in-crime-solving” define what it means to fall in love with your best friend. Jake’s spontaneity balances out Amy’s neuroses and Amy encourages Jake to be the best version of himself.
Jake: I love you so much, you’re my dream girl.
Amy: I love you too, I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.
Nothing, including bomb threats, Cheddar eating their cake, and troublesome ex-boyfriends, could keep these soulmates apart. We are so glad Brooklyn Nine-Nine was saved and we’ll get to see the next chapter of Jake and Amy’s journey in 2019.
4. Bobby and Athena (9-1-1)

Bobby and Athena’s first date at the end of 9-1-1 Season 1 definitely took fans by surprise, but their relationship has easily become one of the best parts of Season 2. Each facing their own kinds of trauma, Bobby and Athena each could have drowned in their own loneliness, but instead, they found each other.
These two have an easy chemistry that makes their love for each other feel so tangible and lasting. They understand the complications and the lifestyle that comes with their careers, and they are healing all of the broken little pieces inside each other every day.
Bobby: I don’t want to take the next step, I want to take every step, with you for the rest of our lives. Marry me, Athena. I know it might seem sudden and fast but we both know how life works. Life is fleeting and it’s precious and when you find happiness and you find someone who fills your heart and gives you hope for the future and faith in yourself you–
Athena: Bobby! Yes!
After watching these two get engaged on the midseason finale of 9-1-1 Season 2, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
5. Waverly and Nicole (Wynonna Earp)

Wynonna Earp Season 3 brought us a Wayhaught that is stronger and more in love than ever before. They’ve faced demons and vampires, exes and estranged family members, but nothing in all of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory could ever tear these two apart.
Waverly: She’s brave, and loyal, and really great in–at um being good. And she likes me even when I’m none of those things.
Waverly and Nicole keep each other safe and they support each other through the good and the bad. After everything they’ve been through, Waverly is determined not to lose anyone else she loves. At the end of Season 3 Waverly essentially asks Nicole to marry her, and though she may want a ring that’s a little less fraught, we’re pretty sure Nicole is saying yes.
6. FP and Alice (Riverdale)

This time last year we had just found out that Alice and FP had been together in the past. In 2018 we watched FP get rid of a body for Alice, we listened Alice tell FP that she had his baby when they were in high school, and we learned that they’ve practically been head over heels for each other since 1991. On Riverdale Season 3 they’ve finally found their way back to each other.
FP: This feels right, doesn’t it?
Though they haven’t yet found the courage to tell each other how they really feel, it’s clear that Alice and FP have something real. They keep each other grounded and centered and they make each other truly happy.
FP and Alice might have some trouble coming their way with the return of Gladys and Jellybean, but if there’s anything we know about Alice Cooper it’s that she fights for what she loves.
7. David and Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)

David and Patrick are that couple that sneaks into your heart and you don’t realize how deeply invested you are in their relationship until you’re crying in the middle of an acoustic cover of Tina Turner’s “The Best.”
Patrick: I’ve spent most of my life not knowing what right was supposed to feel like and then I met you and everything changed. You make me feel right, David.
They’ve had their share of ups and downs, but when the right one comes along you feel it and you know they’re worth opening your heart for. David is the first person to make Patrick feel the way you’re supposed to feel in a relationship, and Patrick is the first person David has ever said I love you to, besides his parents and Mariah Carey, of course.
They celebrate the little things and have an easy and casual intimacy that screams #RelationshipGoals. David and Patrick are simply the best, and that’s all there is to it.
8. Chidi and Eleanor (The Good Place)

How many times do you have to fall in love with someone before they’re confirmed to be your actual soulmate? In the latest round of watching Chidi and Eleanor fall in love with each other, their feelings for each other nearly destroyed an interdimensional void and then pieced it back together.
Chidi: You flew halfway around the world because you wanted to be a better person and it was very brave. You’re sharp, and you’re strong. You make fun of me a lot, you once called me a human snooze button. But you also showed up in my classroom when I was drowning in dispair and canned chili and you basically saved my life.
2018 proved that no matter what version of reality they’re in or where they end up in the afterlife, Chidi and Eleanor will always find their way back to each other.
9. Claire and Jamie (Outlander)

Claire and Jamie are definitely going to go down in history as one of the most iconic couples in television. You name it, they’ve probably been through a variation of it.
This year we’ve seen them go through even more trials. Colonial America is definitely not something either of them is used to. Between villains like Stephen Bonnet and the politics of the time, they have no one to trust. All they’ve got is each other. For the Fraser’s that’s enough. Claire and Jamie believe in each other more than anyone.
It’s truly a pleasure to see a couple that isn’t bogged down by the will-they won’t-they but rather facing things together. Sure they have arguments (that most of the time leads to make-up sex) but on the end of the day, they know what matters–their love and their family.
(Okay and the sex is pretty great too.)
10. Petra and JR (Jane the Virgin)

JR came on the scene as Petra’s lawyer while being blackmailed, and while Petra was being framed for murder. They could have easily become enemies but instead, they fell in love. Jane the Virgin expertly used the “fake dating” trope to lead into Petra and JR developing real feelings for each other.
Petra: I want you here. Not because I feel guilty or obligated, but because I love you too. Which is scary because it’s so fast, but here’s the thing, I’ve never felt about anyone the way I feel when I’m with you. And I think I just quoted Dirty Dancing, but that’s the kind of cheesy thing you make me do.
Though they had a fight that could have ended their relationship, JR still came back to save Petra’s life and even shot her attacker in the process (#JRshotwho?!). Hopefully, these two can continue their epic romance on the final season of Jane the Virgin and find their happily ever after before it’s all over.
