9-1-1: 5 Things We Know About Season 2
With only a ten-episode first season, 9-1-1 managed to create a phenomenon on primetime television. After only a couple episodes, the show was renewed for a second season.
This left the show with high expectations for the remainder of the ten episodes. It didn’t quite keep up the excitement throughout but remained a favorite among new television programs.
The story of the daily trials and tribulations amongst first responders was something viewers hadn’t seen on one show before. Sure there had been shows about cops and firefighters separately, but none of these shows incorporated them all together along with the 9-1-1 dispatchers.
Now, on the cusp of Season 2, many fans are wondering what we can expect from the new season. Below is a list of the 5 things we know to be true about the new season.
1. Two Night Premiere

First and foremost, we know that the second season will be kicked off with an exciting two-night premiere. Part one will air on Sunday, September 23rd at 8/7c and part two will air the following night (Monday, September 24th) at 9/8c on FOX.
Based on the trailer, the premiere will center on the events surrounding an earthquake. This is something a little different from last season. They are using a major event that will cover multiple episodes instead of having two separate episodes with two separate themes.
The trailer also shows us that some of the problems and issues from Season 1 will remain coming into Season 2. It appears that the romance between Bobby and Athena is still going strong but in secret.
I’m curious if the events of the premiere will bring this secret into the light of day.
2. Jennifer Love Hewitt Steps In

Another thing we see in the promo trailer is the addition of a new 9-1-1 dispatcher played by Jennifer Love Hewitt. It’s clear from the dialogue and visual cues, Hewitt’s character is fairly new to the job.
This seems to also solve a burning question many people have had since the end of Season 1. Will Connie Britton be back? Well, more on that specific subject later.
According to Hewitt at the Television Critics Association in August, her character Maddie is everyone’s favorite bachelor firefighter, Buck’s, sister.
Jennifer Love Hewitt: She comes to her brother pretty broken…and needing to start over.
He ends up helping his sister get a job as a dispatcher using her prior knowledge as a nurse to help others. Maddie has some big shoes left by Abby to fill, but if she is anything like her brother, we have complete confidence in her abilities.
3. Ryan Guzman Joins The Cast

Jennifer Love Hewitt isn’t the only person joining the cast in Season 2. The new season also brings a new firefighter, Eddie Diaz, played by Ryan Guzman.
For those of you who don’t know, Guzman is known for his role as Jake on Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars. As well as recent roles in films such as Everybody Wants Some and The Boy Next Door.
There isn’t much known about his character beyond him being an army vet turned firefighter. It’ll be interesting to see what his addition will add to the already familial dynamic of the firehouse.
4. Building Other Worlds

9-1-1 Season 1 was really great at building up the dynamic and routine of life at the firehouse. However, fans were a bit disappointed at the lack of focus on the other elements, more specifically the dispatch center.
The fact that this season we’re adding Hewitt’s character, as well as other dispatchers, gives us hope that the show will continue to build that world. Hopefully, by giving them a closer connection to the firehouse, we will get to see more of the world around answering 9-1-1 calls.
With a dynamic between Hewitt and another dispatch character being teased, a focus on the dispatch center seems likely.
It’ll be a nice change of pace from the previous season.
5. Connie Britton’s Return?

The big question on everyone’s mind is whether or not Season 1 fan favorite, Abby (Connie Britton) will be returning.
Unfortunately, Britton won’t be back as a season regular for Season 2, but executive producer Tim Minear has stated that the door is always open should she decide to return.
That doesn’t completely rule her out as a character, but the probability is pretty low considering Britton signed on to do other projects.
