Take Two Review: One to the Heart (Season 1 Episode 13)

Reviews, Take Two

Take Two Season 1 Episode 13, “One to the Heart,” is the season’s finale, but it leaves us with many questions and very few answers. As ABC has yet to make a decision about the future of the show, let’s hope we will eventually find out what happens after the events of the finale!

Sam and Eddie finally give in to the obvious attraction they have been fighting all season. I was definitely worried for a minute that they would spend the whole episode pretending their night together never happened. They may have tried at first, but they fail miserably and quickly.

Christine: Look, you thought having her around was going to be a disaster, and look what happened. Business is better, and you’re not grumpy all the time.

Eddie: Which is exactly why I don’t wan’t things to change.

Sam and Eddie are so smiley! They can’t even look at each other without big, stupid grins on their faces. Of course, everyone who interacts with them instantly figures out that their relationship has changed.

While Sam and Eddie avoid talking about their future, they change their behavior as if they are now in a relationship. They can’t seem to avoid little touches and quick kisses. Even though it is left up in the air, I feel confident that Sam and Eddie are officially together.

It would have been nice to see them have a real conversation like adults, but that’s not the MilMar way. This is just one of the many cliffhangers we are left to ponder.

Of course, Eddie’s protective nature goes into overdrive. He’s suddenly hesitant to let Sam go undercover, even though she has done it many times before. Is it partially because her job is to seduce another man?

Once Sam enters the poker game, everything goes off the rails.

Eddie is crazy! I know he’s freaked out because Deacon is at the game, but he isn’t anywhere near them when Eddie pulls his gun. Jack doesn’t appear to be a threat to Sam at all.

That will teach him to get close to Eddie’s girl!

However, it doesn’t even matter in the endbecause Jack is shot by a sniper minutes later. I did not see that one coming!

After that, the case (and Eddie) get extra crazy. Eddie has always acted like such a level-headed guy, but there’s no room for self control in a season finale.

It’s revealed that the shooter is the same man that murdered a client of Eddie’s right in front of him three years ago. Eddie had spent a great deal of time with this woman and developed strong feelings for her. He’s determined to bring her killer to justice, no matter the cost.

Sam notices Eddie is losing his ability to think clearly and is taking major risks to find the shooter. She asks him to back down and let the police handle it. He flat out refuses and insists he knows what he is doing.

Eddie: My eyes are wide open.

Sam: It doesn’t matter if they are blinded by emotion.

Eddie has such wild eyes during this scene! I know it’s a serious moment, but I actually had to laugh. As Eddie is arguing that he’s fine, he looks the exact opposite. Eddie Cibrian did an amazing job at looking completely unstable.

All season long, I have tried to limit how much I compare Take Two to Castle . It’s been difficult, though, as there have been so many similarities. But this time, I have to bring it up.

This conversation is so much like the ones Castle and Beckett had about her mother’s case. It’s strange to watch Sam and Eddie behave the exact same way as Castle and Beckett, as the show has firmly established that these four characters are very different people.

Kate Beckett did a lot of reckless things in pursuit of a sniper, but never anything quite as bad as Eddie. What was he thinking? He’s lucky he wasn’t killed.

Also, did anyone else catch the shout out the Spolano crime family? They were a prominent New York mob on Castle. I guess they moved to LA?

Eddie’s rage gets a little unrealistic. Yes, it’s all very dramatic, but I’m not sure I buy Eddie making quite this many bad decisions. He’s extremely quick to violence during the finale, and that just doesn’t feel like the Eddie we have gotten to know all season.

This sets us up for the episode’s major cliffhanger: Deacon framing Eddie for the shooter’s murder!

I’m not entirely surprised about this. The pieces all come together very conveniently. And it looks pretty bad. There’s a lot of evidence stacked up against Eddie. Hopefully, we will get a Season 2 to see how Sam and Christine can prove Eddie’s innocence.

Of course, that’s provided Sam isn’t leaving the PI game to get back into acting. I have confidence she won’t. She may take a little time off to film the movie, but she’ll be back. She isn’t ready to walk away from Eddie and crime-solving yet.

Hopefully, ABC isn’t either.
