Riverdale: Mark Consuelos and Marisol Nichols on What’s To Come for the Lodge Family in Season 3 [Video]
At San Diego Comic-Con, we had the chance to speak with Riverdale stars Mark Consuelos and Marisol Nichols during a roundtable interview about Hiram and Hermione’s changing dynamic and what’s to come for the Lodge family in Season 3.
While Season 1 centered largely on the whodunit of Jason Blossom’s murder, Season 2 featured a mix of Black Hood intrigue and Hiram’s mafia activity. Nichols teased the new drama at the heart of Season 3’s beginning.
“There’s obviously a new mystery, which you always know will happen in Riverdale. It’s just going to be an unexpected mystery that they’re going to have to pull the string on,” she said. “Both the kids and the adults are involved in the Season 3 mystery.”

Both actors clarified that they don’t know much about the specifics of the new season and its new mystery. At the time of the interview, they’d only seen up to Riverdale Season 3 Episode 2. Consuelos said that every script brings an unexpected surprise, and it’s always a lot of fun to read them and see what the writers have come up with.
Hiram and Hermione started Season 2 as a solid team. But by the end, seeds of doubt began to form in Hermione’s mind, especially when she and Veronica were almost killed in retaliation for Hiram’s crimes.

When asked whether the Lodges will present a united front this season, Nichols didn’t hesitate to say that she thinks there’s going to be some discord between them.
“They started as a united front. I think in Hermione’s mind, [Hiram] went too far. Once you start messing with Veronica and things like that, it’s too much,” Nichols said.
“Loyalty, to [Hiram], is really a one-way street, and loyalty in the family is a one-way street, and it’s super transactional,” Consuelos added.
“They’re both making moves. Hiram knows what’s going on behind the scenes — he’s smart. And Hermione knows exactly what’s going on too. It’s what’s unsaid that I find really interesting with these two characters. There’s a lot of stuff that’s not said. And that’s the fun part, I think,” he said.
