Here’s everything we know about Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 so far.

Uncharted Territory

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is not the first time the beloved series by Rick Riordan has been adapted. However, Season 3 follows The Titan’s Curse, which has never been adapted before.

“You’re going to go to some places that you’ve been wanting to see for a long time,” Executive Producer Craig Silverstein teased at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).

Titan’s Curse is where the book series starts to get a bit darker, and Executive Producer Daniel Shotz commented at SDCC that the season is dealing with so much — “the maturity, the growth, the emotional depth” — the cast has risen to meet every change.

Series Description: Season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on The Titan’s Curse, the third installment of Disney Hyperion’s bestselling book series by acclaimed author Rick Riordan. The stakes are higher than ever before as Percy is faced with the sudden disappearance of Annabeth and the impending Great Prophecy provided by the Oracle of Delphi, dictating the fate of Olympus. As foretold by the Oracle of Delphi, one demigod child of the “Big Three” is fated to raise Olympus to new heights or bring it crashing into ruin, with their own life hanging in the balance.

At D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Walker Scobell gave us a big-picture look at this season: “the stakes are higher, the story is darker, and the Olympian council is finally complete.”

Scobell has previously said that this is the most book-accurate of all the Percy Jackson and the Olympians seasons, which is a high bar to set.

Annabeth Goes MIA

During Season 2, Grover spent the majority of the season separated from Percy and Annabeth. This time around, Annabeth will be off on her own.

In The Titan’s Curse, Annabeth is absent for most of the book. However, that’s not the case on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.

“Annabeth, in this story, is separated from the group [and] is not in the book very much. Because you guys, and we, love Annabeth so much, we’re going to open up the world and explore where Annabeth is, and to give a whole new look at that world,” explained Shotz at SDCC.

At D23, we finally got to watch the trailer for Season 3, which featured Annabeth being taken, and Percy ready to do whatever it takes to rescue her.

More Thalia

For Season 3, Tamara Smart has been promoted to a series regular, so we’ll be seeing a lot more of Thalia.

At SDCC, attendees were treated to the opening scene of the season, which featured Thalia fighting a monster in a parking garage. Soon, Percy joins in on the fight and helps her defeat the monster, a development that Thalia is not pleased with.

As Smart put it at SDCC, “there’s some generational beef” between Thalia and Percy, and that is certainly on full display during the opening scene.

To make matters worse, Thalia reveals during the fight that she is looking for Luke, which does not endear her to Percy at all. It’s understandable that Thalia would want to find Luke and learn the truth about what he had been up to while she was a tree.

New Characters

We’re meeting a whole new slew of characters on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.

“This season, we are introducing the Hunters of Artemis, powerful new demigods, and a titan who’s been waiting a very long time to make his move,” Andra Day shared at D23.

Percy and Annabeth set off at the beginning of Season 3 to rescue two children of Hades: Nico and Bianca di Angelo, who are played by Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie, respectively.

Additionally, this season introduces us to more of the gods. Ming-Na Wen is playing Hera, Jennifer Beals is Demeter, Hubert Smielecki is Apollo, and Andra Day is Athena. As previously reported, Dafne Keen and Saara Chaudry have joined the series as Artemis and her lieutenant, Zoë Nightshade, respectively.

The big bad of the season has previously been reported to be Atlas, played by Holt McCallany. Atlas is the titan referred to in the book’s title, The Titan’s Curse.

While we don’t know who is playing him yet, it was confirmed at SDCC that Hercules has been cast.

Things to Look Forward to

At SDCC, the cast and creatives were asked to share their picks for what episodes, moments, or characters they were most excited for fans to see during Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.

Shotz picked the hunters, stating that he “cannot wait for you to see how they work together and everything that comes with them.”

Smart also shouted out the hunters, specifically Nightshade. “You guys are not ready for that. I wasn’t ready for it. You guys aren’t ready. No one is ready,” she said.

Silverstein, Chrisopulos, and Abercrombie all chose the junkyard of the gods, which will be on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 Episode 4. “If you know, you know,” Abercrombie added after saying that was her pick.

For Smart and Charlie Bushnell, they are excited for fans to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 Episode 7. “It’s pretty crazy. There’s a lot that goes down in Episode 7,” Bushnell stated.

Bushnell also shared that he’s excited for fans to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 Episode 1 because the season “starts with a bang.”

For Aryan Simhadri, he can’t wait for fans to see the Hoover Dam, joking that it is “pretty dam good.” He noted that the set was gorgeous. Scobell was not to be left out of the puns, mentioning “that dam snack bar.”

After going back and forth for a minute, Scobell picked Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 Episode 3. He originally picked Episode 7.
