Interviews, San Diego Comic-Con, Wynonna Earp

At San Diego Comic-Con we spoke with Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras during a roundtable interview about what goes into creating the series and pushing the limits in this third season.

Wynonna Earp Season 3 is already off to the races on even wilder adventures than ever before. Andras teased a bit about how far they push this season.

“It’s insane, I’m actually a little terrified about some of the choices I’ve made.”

Andras shared that every part of Wynonna Earp and what they can do with it is a testament to the dedicated fans.

“They’ve shown they’re in it, they get it. They’re happy with cliffhangers, they’re happy for the ride, they can handle the pace, they love the characters. So it just emboldens us.”

Wynonna Earp finds the perfect balance between campy sci-fi and sincere drama. In seeking that happy medium, Andras trusts her instincts and embraces what the cast is capable of and what feels right for the show whether it be on the comedic or serious end of the spectrum.

“It’s such a joy to write a show that has so many emotional highs and lows within an episode.”

Andras told us fans can look forward to more musical moments from unexpected characters on Wynonna Earp Season 3 and even teased that there’s potential for an entire musical episode in the future.

“I’m always under a lot of pressure to write a musical episode.”

Andras also drummed up excitement for newcomer Chantel Riley who plays Kate on the new season.

“She’s this mysterious confident woman who just happens to be a vampire, who also knows Doc Holliday from his past. You know when I say these things out loud, even after all this time I’m like this show sounds insane.”
