So far, this list has been lacking music. There are a couple of shows on Netflix that fix this problem. But Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is our favorite by far.

Follow Rebecca Bloom as she leaves her impressive job at a law firm in New York and follows her childhood boyfriend Josh to West Covina, California. There, she hopes to sing and dance her way into his heart.

9. Wynonna Earp

Based on the IDW comic, Wynonna Earp follows the title heroine as she fights paranormal creatures due to a curse placed on her family by a demon years ago. It has been (rightfully) compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Wynonna Earp‘s second season proves that it’s willing to shake things up and defy everyone’s expectations. If you are looking for some amazing female characters, romance, demons, and a ton of sarcasm, then this is the show for you.

8. Stranger Things

When a boy goes missing in Hawkins, Indiana in the ’80s, his friends and family work with the police chief, fighting whatever forces they need to, in order to get him back. If you like horror and fantasy and haven’t watched Stranger Things yet, what are you waiting for?

7. Sense8

The popular show was canceled after two seasons, but thanks to persistent fans, a 2.5 hr series finale was released on June 8, 2018. Any show with fans passionate enough to demand a finale is worth a watch in our book.

6. Jane the Virgin

In the mood for the U.S.’ answer to the classic telenovela? How about a dramedy that leans heavily on the comedy side, but still tells authentically feminist, emotional stories?

Look no further than Jane the VirginThe final season of the critically-acclaimed series following Jane Villanueva’s life after she’s accidentally artificially inseminated will air in 2019. But you can catch up on the first four seasons on Netflix right now.

5. Luke Cage
Luke Cage Season 2 Episode 3
Marvel’s Luke Cage

Marvel’s Luke Cage is another one of our favorites in the Marvel universe.

Being bulletproof isn’t as easy as it may seem. Watch as Luke tries to keep his loved ones (and the streets of Harlem) safe while trying to take down anyone hunting him.

4. Dear White People

Dear White People is a satirical dramedy that follows black students at an ivy league college as they tackle important race-related issues on a campus that isn’t as progressive as it wants to be. This is one of those series’ everyone should watch for more reasons than entertainment.

Unless you haven’t been out much lately, you probably know someone who’s been brought to tears by Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot. I mean, haven’t we all?

The new “Fab Five” experts are doing more than making over lucky subjects. They’re doing their best to change lives and promote understanding in the process. It seems to be working so far.

Just make sure you have a bunch of tissues around when you watch.

2. One Day At a Time

One Day at A Time is the only current sitcom that gives us “classic” vibes (think Family Matters & Full House) while tackling current issues like LGBTQ representation and immigration. Rita Moreno as the matriarch/abuela is the cherry on top of this sitcom, which follows a single mother as she navigates the ups and downs of life with two teenagers.

On My Block is one of the most under-rated series on Netflix, if not the entire year.

The series follows a group of friends as they navigate the struggles of their first year of high school. While that includes typical love triangles, for this group, it also means dealing with the heartache that sometimes comes when your parents are immigrants and avoiding pressure to join a gang.
