15 Reasons You Should Be Watching ‘Schitt’s Creek’ (continued)
9. Moira’s Wigs
You guys, the wigs have names and personalities.
In the opening scenes of the series, the Rose family scrambles to grab whatever they can as the feds seize their home and belongings. Our introduction to Moira is her having a meltdown over packing her wigs.
Maid: *packs two wigs into one bag*
Moira: Did you put Kristen with Robin?! They don’t like each other!
10. The David/Stevie Friendship
It starts out with Stevie and David seeing each other as amusing novelties, but they soon find out they need each other. They have their ups and downs just like there are in any friendship, but the support they show each other is really sweet. And their banter is funny and sarcastic, and super fun to watch.
11. The Dialogue
The writing is quick and whip-smart, you almost feel like you miss a hundred funny jokes or one-liners by the time you reach the end of an episode which, in turn, makes you want to immediately rewatch it. And that it’s delivered so well by each and every actor in the cast makes it even better.
12. Dustin Milligan as Ted
Ted is the town veterinarian. He likes puns and animals, and isn’t afraid to get all up in his feelings. I think it’s actually impossible to not like him. As a love interest for Alexis, Ted is a refreshing departure from what sounds like a string of superficial, shallow ex-boyfriends.
Dustin Milligan takes what could’ve been just a basic dude role and turns him into an endearing character without which the show wouldn’t be the same.
13. Johnny’s Positivity
It can’t be easy to lose everything and have to upend your family that has enjoyed every luxury there is to a Podunk town to live in a motel, but Johnny manages to repeatedly find the silver lining in the midst of their new and unfamiliar hardships.
He goes from being the founder and CEO of one of the nation’s largest chains of video stores to struggling to make ends meet. He humbles himself into applying for unemployment, asking his son for financial help, and fixing things around the motel—all to make his family’s adjustment a little easier.
14. The Sibling Relationship
David and Alexis argue like brothers and sisters tend to do, but the underlying sibling love is evident at all times. Now that they are forced to share a room, their bickering increases to high comedic levels.
Whether it’s watching them push each other’s buttons or teaming up to tease their parents, scenes with David and Alexis are always entertaining.
15. The Details
There are a lot of little things that add so much to the overall appeal of the show. For example, the menus at the local diner are comically huge—even by the third season, I’m still laughing at the characters opening them up.
Another detail that never fails to be funny is Bob’s little jog. He does it everywhere he goes and it does not get old.
The writers and the actors pay attention to these nuances, and the show benefits enormously from their meticulous care.
