The Good Place Review: Best Self (Season 2 Episode 10)

Reviews, The Good Place

Michael and Team Cockroach say their final goodbyes to the fake good place on The Good Place Season 2 Episode 10, “Best Self.”

Up until now my ultimate favorite episode of this season was “Derek,” but now I have to proclaim my love for “Best Self” and how it’s such a fantastic episode.

It’s been a good minute since we’ve seen Team Cockroach sit down and enjoy the company of each other without always having to try and save themselves from being exposed, but this time they hit a breaking point and just had some fun.

Michael lied to the rest of the team, again, but this time it wasn’t him trying to hide something from them to manipulate the situation, he genuinely didn’t want to let them down.

Michael was only trying to help the team by not letting them think they were entirely out of options but you can tell that it hits Eleanor the hardest.

Trusting Michael is something that Eleanor has gotten used to and yet another lie – especially about them being stuck in the bad place forever with no way out – struck her more than I would’ve thought. As she said, she isn’t mad just disappointed.

But all of the disappointment soon melts away as the team gets plastered together and then makes Michael an honorary human. Seriously, this moment is one of my favorites. His face when the team gives him his human kit is so precious.

I am beyond ecstatic that Tahani is finally beginning to realize that she doesn’t need Jason and she never did. The whole relationship was something she thought she wanted because she’s used to having someone do everything for her.

It brings a warm glow to my heart to see Tahani realize that she doesn’t need a man. She doesn’t need anyone in her life to bring her happiness, and she needs to grow as a person before relying on anyone else.

Eleanor and Chidi’s relationship is still on the mend and Chidi is annoying. His comment about hoping that soulmates are real is irritating, and if I could, I would have made Eleanor slap him.

Now, it’s time for Team Cockroach to venture off to the real bad place in hopes that the judge will grant them passage to the real good place. I can already tell it’s going to be quite the adventure.

Other Thoughts:

  • I think that the team is going to have a ridiculously hard time getting across the real bad place without being seen.
  • Shawn is going to figure it out and try to stop them. I can feel it.
  • I hope that by the end of the season Chidi finally realizes that he likes Eleanor back.

“In case feelings aren’t stupid, and in the case that we are eternally doomed, I thought it might be worth mentioning that I do have feelings for you.” – Eleanor
  • “You humans have so many emotions! You only need two: anger and confusion.” – Michael
