The Big Bang Theory: Top Moments from The Confidence Erosion (Season 11 Episode 10)
On The Big Bang Theory Season 11 Episode 10, “The Confidence Erosion,” Raj’s new-found confidence comes with a cost, and Amy and Sheldon try to find ways to deal with their wedding stress.
“The Confidence Erosion” includes one of my favorite scenes from the ten and a half season run of the show and, in general, caught me completely by surprise.
This is The Big Bang Theory at its best — it has heart, a few good laughs, and character development that makes me excited about what is going to happen next.

Here are my top moments from “The Confidence Erosion.”
“His people come from a very sarcastic village called Brooklyn”: Raj breaks up with Howard
Throughout the run of the show, Raj has constantly been made fun of but I never quite realized before the effect it has had on him, probably because he often makes fun of himself as well. His culture, the way he talks, his interest in “feminine” matters such as fashion, and his bad luck with women are constant sources of ridicule, especially for Howard.
When Raj fails at an interview for a job he really wants, he starts to think about his confidence and comes to the realization that the way Howard has been treating him might be a crucial cause to his lack of it.
By taking some distance from Howard Raj makes probably one of his best decisions ever and it is so refreshing to see him being comfortable with himself. He gets the job he wants, he connects with a girl and honestly looks better than I’ve ever seen him look. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

“I had a falling out with Raj”: Howard’s struggle
Though the episode focuses quite heavily on Raj, of which I am extremely happy about, it was interesting to see little glimpses of Howard dealing with his falling out with his best friend.
I hope this episode is only the beginning of a struggle he has to go through in order to find his way back to friendship with Raj because I really feel there could be potential here to learn more about Howard as well.
There must be more to Howard’s need to make fun of people, especially of his best friend, that the fact that his origins in the “sarcastic village called Brooklyn.” Maybe an episode focused on Howard’s troubles with confidence could be a good addition to this storyline.
“I want to have a first dance with you”: The scene that made me cry
Okay, now we come to one of my favorite scenes of the episode and of the entire run of the show so far — this one definitely makes the top three The Big Bang Theory scenes ever.
After their mathematical approach to wedding planning proves to be faulty, Sheldon and Amy decide to go to the city hall to get married — why spend time planning a wedding that only seems to make them argue with each other.

When the city hall decision was made, I was bummed for a short while, until I realized that there is no way the writers would allow the two to get married in such a way. Leonard and Penny already had that runaway wedding plus the fact that Sheldon is getting married feels so monumental that it deserves a whole episode dedicated to it.
And it seems like Sheldon thinks so too…
When their names are called up at the city hall, Sheldon, who first insisted on not having a first dance, tells Amy that he wants to dance with her at a real wedding and that he wants to show the whole world how much he loves her.
At this point, tears were falling down my face. Hearing Sheldon talk about his love for Amy in such a manner is monumental, sweet, and perfect and managed to make me even more excited about their wedding.
Other thoughts:
- The Big Bang Theory is much more entertaining when it focuses only on a subset of characters at the time rather than trying to fit storylines for all of them into one episode. It is especially entertaining to see so much of Raj on his own.
- I think I already need to start stocking up on tissues for the wedding episode! Who knew Sheldon could be so romantic?
