Broad City Season Finale Review: Friendiversary (Season 4 Episode 10)
On Broad City season 4 episode 10, “Friendiversary,” Abbi and Lana celebrate their friendship anniversary by trying to bring a murderer to justice.
To do this they stalk him around the city, break into his apartment, and defile his home with barbecue chicken tender farts just to find out that he’s simply a lonely man who broke one of his sex dolls.
This episode is a great ending to a revolutionary season.

Who else is surprised their friendiversary is in the middle of winter? On Broad City season 4 episode 1, “Sliding Doors,” when we get to see their first friendcation away from their responsibilities, it is warm enough for Ilana to run around the street half-naked.
Abbi is not alone in her surprise. But since Ilana is the partner in the relationship that does remember these dates and clearly organizes all of their relationships’ functions, we will defer to her and her memory whether she’s right or wrong.
Happy wife, happy life.

This episode rounds off the extended analogy neatly threaded throughout the season, regarding America and Tr**p. In an extension of Broad City season 4 episode 9, our favorite broads remind us to find solace in those we hold most dear, which will always be Abbi for Ilana and vice versa.
I mean do you guys see how Abbi jumps in front of Ilana with no hesitation?
Abbi: Kill me and let her go!
I love everything about this moment; it’s complete soul-mate goals.

In addition to finding peace in our loved ones, Broad City‘s finale episodic theme tells us to try to right wrongs no matter how it inconveniences us. We must bring murders, sexual predators, and pedophiles to justice no matter how difficult it may seem or how much it ruins/interrupts our own agendas. Looking directly at you, Republican Party.
Broad City explores this well. Ilana is understandably mad at Abbi for forgetting their big day and then lying about it, so, of course, they start arguing with one another. But once they see the murder, they collectively put their anger aside and use teamwork to right a wrong.
It’s incredibly inspiring how well they work together and so indicative of their bond.

Other than these magnificent themes and analogies, we also get to meditate on the journey of Abbi and Ilana’s friendship. This nostalgia filled episode floods me with Abbi and Ilana feels. Even through all the big changes the series makes this season, Broad City Season 4 hasn’t forgotten the core of the show: Abbi and Ilana’s relationship.
These two will ride or die for each other. Other than the comedy and this season’s conscious themes and plots, Abbi and Ilana’s bond is why I always come back to Broad City.
Even though only 10, 22-minute episodes a year is basically inhumane torture, I’ll always watch for my favorite Jewess broads.

Stray Observations:
- Are we supposed to pretend Ilana says words like, “sublime?” Not going to lie, that rhyme threw me off.
- Abbi’s PTSD at homeless guys flashing her daily is so me and every girl, everywhere. If we don’t ask, don’t show! It’s not rocket science.
- It takes me a while to realize when Abbi and Ilana fight because it’s so rare. Just as rare as seeing Ilana mad. It seems so out of character even when it’s justified.
I’m a bit depressed that this is the finale episode. I feel like I was just being fed after a whole year of starvation. Leftovers (re-runs) can only satisfy me for so long! I can’t wait another year and a half for another Broad City season; I’ll lose it.
