Chicago Med Review: Naughty or Nice (Season 3 Episode 4)
Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 4, “Naughty or Nice,” deals with a few Christmas miracles, some festive cheer, and a few names on the naughty list.
The Underdog
After months of recovery, Robin is back to work with Connor by her side supporting her. Almost everyone welcomes her with encouraging words and hugs. The ones that aren’t so thrilled judge from the side and keep their comments to themselves, or to those that agree.
Ironically, on her first day back, Robin treats a possible outbreak of a bacteria from rats, which unfortunately triggers flashbacks to when she was dealing with the hallucinations of rats.
It’s understandable that when she starts hearing noises, she comes to the quick conclusion that she is hallucinating again.

A Christmas miracle, so to speak, presents itself. She wasn’t hearing rats after all: it was just a heater problem.
It’s also a huge relief to see Robin, despite feeling not okay, still focus on the outbreak and help Nurse Sexton and Dr. Sexton figure out where the bacteria came from.
I think it’s safe to say that, at least for now, Robin is doing very well. She faces her worries and fears in a bit of an extreme way. All in all, she made it through her first shift back pretty well.
Sibling Language
Noah has come a long way. He’s an official doctor at the hospital with the training wheels off. Remember when he was slacking off and just flirting with the girls? Look at him now!
Despite his growth, April is still wary of his abilities. Noah eventually tells her to back off; he only wants her to believe in him.
She should. Especially when he has to intubate his patient. April second guesses him, but Noah persists. In the end, his way to insert the tube is the right call.

April looks to their patient and his sister for advice about how to deal with Noah. She sees that (even though they bicker) at the end of the day, they just want what’s best for each other. April relates that to her situation with Noah and reminds him that she does believe in him.
It is hard when it comes to siblings. You never want to take the training wheels off, in a way. April just needs to believe that her brother knows what he’s doing and to trust his judgement from now on. Hopefully, she will be more consistent in trusting him from now on.
Teamwork Coupling
Let’s talk about Dr. Manning’s patient Shannon.
The sweet pregnant woman comes in having Braxton Hicks contractions. Her husband arrives after a business trip filled with concern and worry. It all seems fine — until the husband confides in Will that he was really in Aruba cheating on his wife.
What’s even more angering is his Zika test result. Mr. Kim wants to keep his Zika information to himself, at the risk of his wife finding out about his affair. Zika is a huge issue, especially for women who are pregnant. Not telling his wife is clearly a risk to their unborn child.
This man would willingly save his cheating self and risk his wife and unborn child’s lives. How twisted is that?
Luckily, Will and Natalie are on the case. Natalie almost tells the wife — almost. This would probably have tremendous legal ramifications in real life, but she has to protect her patient.
Thankfully, though, Will swoops in at the last second with someone from CDC.
Will would’ve had Natalie’s back if a lawsuit happened, for sure. He always has her back. But with this situation, they’re able to handle it safely and legally.
Natalie and Will, especially, are always risking their reputations for their patients. Even if it means the worst for them, they always go above and beyond for their patients.
Unresolved Issues
The tension between Dr. Reese and Dr. Charles is growing. They’re separating farther and farther apart with everything that they are not saying to each other.
Unfortunately for Dr. Charles, we find out the man who shot him died in prison. Dr. Charles says he’s fine, but projects his feelings onto another patient, risking his own life again in the process.
He’s really not okay emotionally, and he’s really not okay with Sarah.

Dr. Reese is struggling too — especially when she chooses to go check on other patients, rather than do a consult with Dr. Charles on the homeless man. That’s so unusual for her. She never chooses not to do a consult with him. She even breaks down to Ms. Goodwin, knowing that Dr. Charles was projecting his feelings onto the homeless man.
Luckily, Dr. Charles decides to take a few days off to clear his head. He still needs to resolve things with Dr. Reese, though.
They both tell each other they’re okay, but neither one of them is. These two need to be honest and upfront. Most importantly, they need to face each other and they also need to face themselves.

Other Thoughts:
- Anyone else’s heart break when the little boy in the waiting room is worried about Santa? I almost cried.
- It’s so sad that the Santa actually died, but even more sad is Dr. Stohl being a total scrooge and wanting to charge the family $16,000 because, although he collapsed in the waiting room, he was on a bed for a short time.
- Ms. Goodwin saves the day with the board, but her job may be on the line. She is the best, and her job better not be at risk!
- Manstead’s kiss is very cutem as always.
- Dr. Choi using St. Patrick’s decorations as mistletoe is so cute. He did the best he could, and April still kisses him. He gets an A for effort, that’s for sure.
- The homeless man has psych issues, but it’s so sad to find that he stabs a priest. I just wanted him to get the help he needs. I hope he eventually gets it.
- Dr. Bekker and Dr. Rhodes bicker and banter as usual. They work together especially well tonight, and their patient is set to make a full recovery. It’s interesting that she asks him out for coffee. Not surprisingly, he declines, but i wonder if he’ll ever accept her offer.
