As a part of the Arrowverse, Legends of Tomorrow stars Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz were natural and welcome additions to the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in San Jose. The actors teamed up for a panel to discuss the show.

1. Sara and Alex

Lotz fielded two questions about Sara Lance’s relationship with Supergirl’s Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh). Regarding whether or not we would see Sara and Alex together again, Lotz said, “I think with Sara and Alex, by the end of it [Crisis on Earth-X], it was very clear that they were just friends. I think they had a night that was fun, and they both needed that kind of connection.”

She doesn’t see them taking it in a romantic direction, though. “They’re more like best friends,” explained Lotz, adding, “I hope that we can keep that going because I feel like Sara would call up Alex and be like, ‘Hey girl, so, I met this chick or I met this guy. What should I do?'”

Lotz described Alex as a good friend for Sara. “Alex is a pretty level-headed girl, and I feel like Sara could call upon her for advice.”

Lotz also had high praise for Chyler Leigh who plays Alex. “She’s such a phenomenal woman, and I don’t use that lightly. She is a mother of three, and the kind of hours that we do—I can’t even take care of myself,” laughed Lotz. “She really is like a Superwoman.”

Filming the crossover was the first time Lotz and Leigh had met. “The first scene we shot was us waking up in bed, like, naked together. I was, like, ‘Hey, I’m Caity. It’s really nice to meet you.'”

2. Totem Envy

Lotz wants a totem for Sara. Badly. “I really want a totem. It’s not fair that the other girls get to have these cool necklaces and powers, and I have to actually, practically, do stuff. I want to be in the club,” griped Lotz.

If she were to get one, Lotz expressed fear that the writers would give Sara “a crappy one.” She went on to speculate, “They’d be, like, ‘You have a Photographic Memory Totem,’ and I’d be, like, ‘I know the lunch menu…'” The moderator teased her, saying sarcastically, “It would be helpful in an ever-changing timeline. It would be, like, useless.” Lotz agreed, shaking her head.

Routh was more serious. He thinks Ray would get the Totem of Compassion. This incited “Awwws” from both the audience and Lotz. “I think that would suit Ray well […] to impart that sense of calm to people or enemies, and have them feel compassion,” he said.

This prompted Lotz to divulge that the props guy on set had stickers made with Brandon’s face on them that said “Practice Brandon Acts of Kindness.”

3. The True Tone of Legends

Routh and Lotz were asked what they love most about working on Arrow and Legends. Lotz enjoyed the emotional work she was able to do on Arrow. “I think Sara’s character, at that point, was in a lot of turmoil, so acting-wise it was a lot to work with.”

Routh said that Ray’s “business mode” and scenes with Felicity were his favorite parts of Arrow.

Both Routh and Lotz highlighted the comedy of Legends of Tomorrow as the thing they enjoy most. Lotz said it is nice not to take everything so seriously, and Routh concurred. “I get to be fairly silly, which I have a lot of fun with,” he explained. “The good thing as the show has continued on into Season 3, we’re getting into finding the true tone of Legends, and it has a lot of humor which I think is a good place for our show to be.”

4. Stein’s Death

A fan asked about the impact of Stein’s death on the core Legends group.

“It affects Jax most of all. Ray is fairly taken aback by the loss, and that continues through the rest of the season as we talk about him in memory and that kind of thing,” answered Routh. “It’s an emotional loss for the team.”

Lotz began her answer light, joking, “I think Sara is, like, ‘Well, he was old.'” She quickly followed up, saying, “I’m kidding. I’m kidding!”

She thought that they did a good job with his death. “When I read the script, I cried. It was very heroic and emotional, and I think they did a really nice exit for him.”

5. Whatever Happened To Baby Sara?

Lotz wants to know what happened with Baby Sara. “I was really upset about that, in case anybody was wondering. There was a baby named after me, and Barry messed it up.”

“Why couldn’t he still be called Sara? I mean, we are in a gender fluid world now. It’s still Sara,” she reasoned.
