22 TV Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff
Television shows tells a specific story. They have worlds of their own and lead characters that explore those worlds.
But sometimes, a character shines or a show opens up to lay the groundwork for another story. It’s how spinoffs are born.
One chapter closes and a new one opens like on Major Crimes, or a character goes somewhere new like Addison Montgomery on Private Practice. While successful spinoffs do this very well, many shows never attempt new shows, which leaves great stories and characters on the table.
Here are 22 TV characters who their own spinoff:
21-22. Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua, Hawaii Five-0

During the events that led to Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park leaving Hawaii Five-0, one thought kept crossing my mind: give them a spinoff! On a network that sent the CSI and NCIS franchises across the country, the same could be been done by Hawaii Five-0.
Chin Ho Kelly being offered his own in team in San Francisco was the perfect opportunity to start a new adventure. Kono wanted to go after human traffickers, Chin was taking on new responsibility while starting a life with Julie Benz’s Abby Dunn and Adam definitely could have used a new start away from his criminal past.
It would be the perfect mix of characters CBS viewers love and new circumstances, and characters, to give it a fresh feel.
Plus, Kim and Park’s chemistry as cousins Chin and Kono provided some of Hawaii Five-0’s best scenes!
20. Nolan Ross, Revenge

Nolan Ross was Emily/Amanda’s partner-in-revenge on the ABC drama Revenge. While the series chronicled Emily’s journey to avenge her father’s death, it took Nolan from rich and vapid tech genius to crusader for justice. There was definitely an opportunity with him.
There was talk of incorporating Nolan in a new ABC series, but nothing ever came of it.
Nolan could have gone procedural – helping new people every episode – or found a new person who desperately needed help. Revenge did a lot of things right, but it was not Nolan’s story, which is why a spinoff would’ve been great.
19. Brody Family, Brothers & Sisters

The final season of Brothers & Sisters gave the members of the Walker family closure – except for Rachel Griffiths’ Sarah Walker. The revelation that her real father was Nick Brody opened the opportunity for a spinoff centered on the Brodys.
Sarah was starting her life with her new husband and found out she had a whole other family, which is great foundation for a new series. There’s also the built-in audience of Brothers & Sisters that would follow Sarah on this new journey to consider.
The Walkers had fun, but they were a pretty buttoned up bunch. The Brodys in comparison were wilder, which would make the spinoff distinct from the original series.
With Griffiths leading the project and Beau Bridges as her father Nick Brody, the series would have had serious star power, like the original. Then there’s Sarah’s husband, played by Gilles Marini, and the rest of the Brody siblings. We already met Triste Kelly Dunn’s Lori Lynn in the final season, but there’s room for new talented actors to round out the family.
18. Rachel Gibson, Alias

During the final season of Alias Rachel Gibson was introduced, a character who mirrored star Sydney Bristow’s journey in the pilot. With Gibson, the franchise had an opportunity to tell a new spy story.
Alias was a show about messy family dynamics and borderline supernatural elements – that were at times tiresome. The spy drama wrapped up all of its villains, many of them connected to Sydney, and left several capable characters like Rachel to fight another day.
The new series could have been a true ensemble, which included some fan favorite characters and added some new faces. It’s what Major Crimes did after The Closer ended, a spinoff currently in its sixth and final season.
Sydney’s story may have run its course, but the supporting cast was vibrant, interesting and underutilized. Rachel could have led the charge for its next chapter.
17. Huck, Scandal
Scandal is ending, and the popular political drama is quickly hurdling towards its end. Many of the characters seem to be headed toward the end of their romantic journeys though the series is known for its twists and turns.
The one character who may not get their story wrapped up well is Huck. Quinn has Charlie, Abby seems to be finding her way back to David, and Mellie is president. As its star Olivia will surely have her story told, but that leaves Huck.
Huck is separated from his family and seems content with where he works, so maybe he’s where the spinoff lies.
Imagine a world where Olivia sends Huck somewhere he’s able to use his many skills for good. This would set up a new series with a host of new characters and maybe a few familiar places. Shondaland could have a new spy series without the evil B613.
16. Sara Ellis, White Collar

Insurance investigator Sara Ellis showed up on White Collar as an enemy of con artist Neal Caffrey. She traveled the world hunting down people for her employers, which is how she crossed paths with Neal and FBI agent Peter Burke.
If there was ever a character who was made for a spinoff, it was Sara Ellis. She shared a similar luxurious world to White Collar’s, but where Peter and Neal fought white collar crime in New York City, Sara traveled the world hunting down people. She had a cool, rogue, bounty hunter vibe.
Making matters worse was how the original series treated Sara. Once she got into a relationship with Neal, her job was no longer a focus and she only existed as part of her relationship. Sara deserved much better.
