22 TV Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, Girls, How To Get Away With Murder, Lists, Mad Men, Pinned, Revenge, Scandal, The 100, The Mindy Project
9. Jess Merriweather, Friday Night Lights

Jess-M

Friday Night Lights was a near-perfect series about a town and its football team. It would be a series I would say should have no spinoffs, but then I remembered Jess Merriweather.

While Jess joined the series later in its run, the most interesting thing about her story was her desire to become a football coach. Now a television series about a woman of color trying to kick down doors to become a football coach is fascinating enough.

Add in Jurnee’s talent and you have an incredible leading actress and a great character to begin with.

8. Peter Prentice, The Mindy Project

Happy Endings fans were excited to see Adam Pally join The Mindy Project as Peter Prentice. While he bonded with Dr. Lahiri, there always felt like there was more to explore with him.

Pally’s comedic talent is more than enough to lead a series, but I would take a comedic Private Practice where Peter works with several other doctors. The Mindy Project told Dr. Lahiri’s story and Pally left the series before it ended, so there is a lot left to mine with the character.

7. Alice Morgan, Luther

Not only was Alice Morgan Ruth Wilson’s best performance, but she is one of the greatest female television characters. Yeah, I said that.

Alice was complex, vicious and incredible engaging on Luther. Her mysterious nature would make for a fantastic series. She manipulated people skillful in order to commit murder, but her interactions with Idris Elab’s Luther changed her. We should see how.

Traveling the world on the run and thriving means Alice has serious skills. It is a rich world for a television show to mine.

6. The Grounders, The 100

The 100

When The 100 were sent to Earth to find out if the planet was inhabitable they encountered a very complex world. While the series has gone at breakneck speed, there’s quite a bit of history left untold.

The Earth had several civilizations living on it, the most prominent being The Grounders. Over the course of the series, viewers have learned that what was believed to be a group of savages is actually a complex civilization with clans and rituals.

It seems odd to ignore all of that history. Whether it includes Grounders from the series or all new characters, the civilization has several stories worth telling.

5. Pam Swynford de Beaufort, True Blood

Known for her one-liners, Pam Swynford de Beaufort was the best of True Blood by far. On a show with so money characters it is impressive that stood out, especially when she was not part of the central love story.

Kristin Bauer van Straten holds attention on screen and could easily be the center of a series. I’d watch the dark comedy about Pam running a bar somewhere dealing with the humans and supernatural patrons who walk in.

4. Eve Rothlo, How To Get Away With Murder

How To Get Away With Murder’s fourth season brought the characters into a major law firm, which was new for the series. While Annalise Keating is too busy with getting out of trouble, Famke Janssen’s Eve Rothlo could be the center of a great law story.

Eve loves Annalise, so she helps her whenever asked, but during her latest appearance she headed to the West Coast to start a new life. We should get to watch that new life unfold.

The story could be about a lawyer’s full life, whereas How To Get Away With Murder must also service the lives of Annalise’s students. Eve could fight to succeed at work, love at home and kick ass in the courtroom.

Plus, knowing Annalise for that long means she probably has secrets of her own to were never explored.

While he has been a TV fan since the days of Martin, Living Single, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the introduction of Netflix and a rewatch of Grey's Anatomy kick things into high gear. One of his life goals is to find a Cul-de-Sac crew of his own and he'll never stop hoping for "Happy Endings" to return. Alamin may not love every television show, but he'll definitely catch any new show out. You can also usually find him talking about whatever he's currently watching on Twitter.
