20 Sci-fi and Fantasy TV Shows We Loved in 2017
Science fiction and fantasy television shows have always been great for escapism.
Viewers can lose themselves in worlds vastly different from their own to be part of new thrills and adventures. The best series do this very well.
In no particular order, here are 20 sci-fi and fantasy TV shows we loved in 2017:
1. Outlander
Outlander Season 3 began with the central couple separated by both time and space. We got to know their daughter Brianna better, who was a delight. Covering a lot of ground plot wise may have hurt the series somewhat, but the great love story of Jamie and Claire overcomes any shortcomings.
2. The Shannara Chronicles
The series quietly aired in the fall of 2017, so it’s probably the vast adventure series many missed. Not seen since the days of Xena, The Shannara Chronicles uses a handful of characters to explore a vast world. The series has the winning combination of fun characters, magic, mystical villains, and huge adventures.
3. Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi’s final full season as The Doctor allowed Doctor Who to focus on the ramifications of what has transpired during his entire run. Like all other seasons the series traveled to different times, places and planets, but it was new companion Pearl that made it great.
Pearl worked because she stood her ground and challenged The Doctor. Plus, the character was great for LGBTQ representation.
4. Game of Thrones

Since it departed from the famed book series in its sixth season, Game of Thrones felt more like a television show then a visual depiction of a massive book franchise.
While the main characters have been apart for some time, the latest season saw them come together and on occasion clash. Reunions, big battles, and huge revelations made an impression as the series heads towards its final season.
5. Stranger Things

After losing Barb and meeting the many characters of Stranger Things, Netflix gave viewers another round of adventures with Eleven and company in 2017.
With the characters known to viewers, the series went deeper emotionally and had the time to focus on their next chapters. It was thrilling, exciting and eccentric in the way only Stranger Things can be.
6. American Gods

Based on the popular Neil Gaiman novel, American Gods was a bright, vibrant and fascinating journey through the world of Gods, new and old. Bryan Fuller’s vision took regular man Shadow Moon’s travels through a whole new world and made it larger than life. The result was an epic adventure full of brilliantly ridiculous characters.

That´s quite a few shows, there. My favourite science fiction shows during 2017 were: Travelers, Legion, Incorporated, Dark Matter, The Expanse, Westworld (rewatched it), Mr Robot and Humans.
I must admit I like Game of Thrones on your list. But I do miss some of the ones I mention, at least for a 20 best shows of Sci-Fi & Fantasy.
