Grey’s Anatomy: 10 Doctors Who Should Return

Grey's Anatomy, Lists, Pinned

Grey’s Anatomy is heading into its 14th season, which means quite a few doctors have walked in, and out, of the doors of the Seattle-based hospital. While many of those doctors have lost their lives over the course of the series, some have survived appearing on the medical series.

Recently, it was announced that former series star Kim Raver, who played Dr. Teddy Altman for three seasons, is returning this fall. Last season, Tessa Ferrer returned to the series as Dr. Leah Murphy.

Here are a few other Grey’s Anatomy doctors I’d like to see return to Grey-Sloan.

(Note: Christina Yang should only return in the show’s final season, so she will not be on this list.)

1. Dr. Sydney Heron

During the first few seasons of the series, Kali Rocha played the always giddy Dr. Sydney Heron. She trained some of the interns and even battled in the race from Chief Resident against Dr. Torres and Dr. Bailey.

While featuring a certain group of characters is a fundamental part of a television show, Dr. Heron allowed for a bit of an outside perspective. Viewers got to see what other people thought about the doctors and their often-messy lives.

Sydney has not been seen since Season 4, but I’m sure she’s still running around the hospital.

2. Dr. Sadie Harris

During the fifth season, Melissa George showed up in Seattle as an old friend of series lead Meredith Grey, Dr. Sadie Harris. The troublesome character made major waves with the hospital staff by breaking the rules to a nearly disastrous end.

Sadie also provided a way for viewers to see just how much Harris’ old partner-in-crime had grown up over the years. Since Harris left the series Meredith’s life has drastically changed about half a dozen times, so it begs the question: what happened to Sadie? Having Sadie around added a nice color to Meredith Grey, and after fourteen seasons it would be nice to revisit that part of Meredith’s life.

3. Dr. Addison Montgomery

At the end of the first season of Grey’s Anatomy, Dr. Addison Montgomery showed up and changed everything. During her tenure on the series, and its spin-off Private Practice, Addison struggled to find happiness, but in the end found her happy ending.

Kate Walsh has spoken about a need for the right story before potentially returning to the medical drama. Here’s hoping the creative minds find the right story because Addison interacting with Meredith in a post-Derek Grey’s would be amazing.

Also, it would be nice to see an Amelia-Addison interaction for Private Practice fans.

4. Dr. Shane Ross

While his stint on the series ended with a cushy new job with Dr. Christina Yang, Dr. Shane Ross had a bumpy ride during his time as a resident at Grey-Sloan. He worked himself into an actual frenzy, one that ended with him carving up the body of the father of one of the doctors he worked with.

Having Tess Ferrer’s Leah Murphy return last season made me realize viewers may be interested in the type of surgeon he has become working with Dr. Yang. He would also create an interesting story opportunity to Dr. Alex Karev, the doctor’s whose father died as a result of Shane’s actions. Plus, Gaius Charles has left Taken, so he’s probably available.

5. Dr. Lauren Boswell

The timing could be right for Dr. Lauren Boswell and Dr. Arizona Robbins the second time around. Last season we saw Dr. Robbins find happiness when she began a relationship with Dr. Eliza Minnick, which was her first substantial relationship since her divorce from Dr. Callie Torres. The couple’s relationship was wonderful to watch, but also took some dark turns, including Dr. Robbins cheating on Dr. Torres with Dr. Boswell.

While it may have been wrong, the chemistry between Robbins and Boswell was very present and could be nice to re-examine now that Robbins has her first post-divorce relationship under her belt.

6. Dr. Robert Stark

Dr. Robert Stark should return simply because Peter MacNicol is an exceptional actor, but also because Grey’s Anatomy does well when there’s a villain. Dr. Stark came to Seattle to take over after Dr. Robbins accepted a work opportunity abroad.

During his stint on the medical drama, Dr. Stark was a thorn in the side of several doctors. In fact, his memorable exit involved him storming out while the doctors laughed at a very inappropriate time.

He’d had enough, so I would love to know what he thinks about those doctors running the hospital. The return of Dr. Stark as a foil would be a wonderful and potentially hilarious way to revisit days past.

While he has been a TV fan since the days of Martin, Living Single, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the introduction of Netflix and a rewatch of Grey's Anatomy kick things into high gear. One of his life goals is to find a Cul-de-Sac crew of his own and he'll never stop hoping for "Happy Endings" to return. Alamin may not love every television show, but he'll definitely catch any new show out. You can also usually find him talking about whatever he's currently watching on Twitter.
