Grey’s Anatomy: 10 Doctors Who Should Return
7. Dr. Rebecca Swender
Like Dr. Heron, Dr. Rebecca Swender opened up the hospital outside of the main cast when she appeared during the fifth season. Her arc was as the attending surgical oncologist treating Dr. Izzie Stevens when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Unlike Dr. Heron, Dr. Swender was not always a friend to the doctors in an effort to treat her patient. The biggest draw for the character’s return is the fact she’s played by the very talented Kimberly Elise. Grey’s Anatomy is a series set in a huge and successful hospital, but in recent seasons without the appearances of characters like Dr. Swender, you can forget that.
8. Dr. Lucy Fields
Currently, the medical drama is dealing with the past of Dr. Jo Wilson, specifically her abusive husband, which got me thinking about the loose strings of her love interest Dr. Alex Karev. That loose string is Dr. Lucy Fields.
She dated Dr. Karev during Season 7 and then ended up taking an amazing job opportunity right out from under Dr. Karev. It was a ruthless move that ended a relationship that was going nowhere, but sometimes I wonder what Dr. Fields is doing.
9. Dr. Katherine Wyatt
If there’s one thing Grey’s Anatomy fans know, it’s that the characters, many of them, could use some therapy. Amy Madigan had a memorable arc as Dr. Katherine Wyatt, the psychiatrist who “fixed” Dr. Meredith Grey. Then Dr. Wyatt returned to treat Dr. Owen Hunt when his PTSD was threatening to end his relationship with Dr. Yang.
Shonda Rhimes puts her characters through difficult ordeals on a semi-regular basis, so taking some time to talk to someone could be useful for many of them. Dr. Amelia Shepherd, her former patient Dr. Hunt, Dr. Wilson, and Dr. Maggie Pierce are prime examples of doctors who should probably meet with Dr. Wyatt.
10. Dr. Erica Hahn
Dr. Erica Hahn was equal parts adversary and friend to the doctors of Grey’s Anatomy. After recurring on the medical drama, Brooke Smith was made a series regular for the fourth season. Dr. Hahn made her exit early into the following season after she disagreed with how the doctors handled a situation that ended badly for a past patient of hers.
Dr. Hahn would be the perfect character to reflect on just how much everything has changed, in the way Dr. Preston Burke did when he returned. Or she could come back as an adversary with some dubious plans for the hospital.
