Grey’s Anatomy Season 23: What We Know So Far

The wait won’t be much longer! Grey’s Anatomy returns in less than two weeks, on Thursday, October 15th. Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 will look quite different, though, with major cast changes following the exits of Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver.

Still, there are plenty of familiar faces, and Meredith Grey maintains a presence on the series.

Here’s everything we know so far about Grey’s Anatomy Season 23:

James Wolk is joining the cast.

James Wolk has been cast in a recurring role for Grey’s Anatomy Season 23. He will play Seth Norton, a handsome, arrogant surgeon-turned-businessman.

Showrunner Meg Marinis told TV Insider that his character “may or may not come in hot — literally and figuratively — and ruffle some feathers.” He’s set to appear in at least four episodes this season.

Sarah Levy, Trevor Tordjman, and Martin Martinez also join the cast.

Shondaland confirmed that Sarah Levy, Trevor Tordjman, and Martin Martinez will join the cast for Grey’s Anatomy Season 23.

Sarah Levy will play Corrie Witty, a character who is described as “a bit of an oddball who’s expecting her second child after a traumatic birth experience with her first.”

Martinez, who appeared in Station 19 Season 2, joins the show as Charlie, a character who has “some emotional armor.” Meanwhile, Tordjman plays Thomas, a “boy next door” at the hospital who is monitoring the well-being of his brother’s girlfriend.

Jen Landon is returning.

Jen Landon remains a part of the show as Dr. Toni Wright. Showrunner Meg Marinis told TV Insider that the character will be “instrumental in Ben’s plastics fellowship.” Her relationship with Amelia is something Season 23 will also continue to explore.

Harry Shum Jr. is still part of the cast for Grey’s Anatomy Season 23.

While Benson Kwan, a.k.a. Blue, has an uncertain fate at the hospital, the promo video for the series premiere does show that Harry Shum Jr. has a presence. That said, he’s not wearing scrubs, and instead looks like a worried loved one.

Meg Marinis also confirmed that audiences will “see the fallout from Blue getting fired at the end of last season and him trying to make amends.”

Adjusting to losing Teddy and Owen won’t be easy for Grey-Sloan.

As mentioned above, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver have both exited the series, so we won’t be seeing Teddy and Owen. Their exits gave them a happy ending, though, so there’s always a chance they could make appearances in the future.

However, adjusting to the loss of Teddy and Owen won’t be easy for everyone at Grey-Sloan. Teddy, after all, was also the chief of surgery, and now Grey-Sloan is down two of its most important doctors.

Bailey is going back to school.

As we saw at the end of Season 22, Bailey has a new goal that will help her make more of a difference in medicine. Season 23 will see Bailey going back to school in pursuit of a master’s degree in public health.

Meredith continues to have a recurring role in Grey’s Anatomy Season 23.

Ellen Pompeo will continue to play the part of Meredith Grey in a recurring role. She’s featured in the promo video for the Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 premiere, though she will continue to have a reduced role in the show overall.

Still, she certainly has a presence.

Jo questions her career.

As we saw at the end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 22, Jo has found herself at a crossroads once again and is questioning her career. This is something showrunner Meg Marinis says she will continue to deal with, and that this will “be a time of personal discovery and growth for her.”

There’s a new VIP floor.

In the promo video for the new season, Catherine Avery announces a “new VIP floor” at the hospital. There’s a ribbon-cutting, which appears to be interrupted by a major catastrophe: two planes colliding on a runway.
