Dancing with the Stars Recap: Boy Bands vs. Girl Groups Night (Season 24 Episode 6)
It’s Boy Bands vs. Girl Groups Night on Dancing with the Stars Season 24 Episode 6. Julianna is not here for the night and, fittingly, the guest judge is an enthusiastic Nick Carter.
Read on for the performances and scores.
Simone and Sasha: Kicking off the night, Simone delivered a less than stellar samba to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child. The dance started out awkward and while it improved by the end, it was not as good as their performance on “Disney Night.”
The judges criticized the timing of the dance, but enjoyed it overall. Guest judge, Nick Carter, excitedly gave them the lowest score of an eight.
Score: 35/40

The judges commented on his improvements and told him to work on emotional connections in the dance. Bonner is still no where near the level of some of the other dancers.
Score: 30/40
Nancy and Artem: After a long package about how Nancy feels the pressure and gets in her own head, she, ironically, danced a paso doble to En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind.” Nancy gave a performance full of dramatic skirt movements and intensity.
The judges mainly want Nancy to relax and believe in herself to keep her shoulders from tensing up. But when Tom asked Len what he thought about the dance, Len started a long list of things he did not like. Nick Carter gave the dance another enthusiastic eight.
Score: 33/40
Nick and Peta: The Bachelor star attempted a “super hard” jive to The Beach Boys’ “Fun, Fun, Fun.” The live band version of this song had a singer that was distracting to me, it definitely did not sound like The Beach Boys. Nick gave a good effort, and I thought he hit all the steps of a hard dance.
He didn’t have any obvious timing mistakes and the routine went well with the song. The judges disagreed saying he needed to work on his precision and footwork. Nick Carter said he had the boy band looks but needed to work on the moves.
Score: 28/40

The judges gushed about how much she commits to her dance and the potential, except Len who wanted more salsa content. Nick Carter said she had what it takes to “go all the way” and Bruno said it “melted my wires” before giving it 10’s. Len was not as impressed and only gave it an eight.
Score: 38/40
David and Lindsay: A tough package played, showing Lindsay encouraging a frustrated David, before attempting an Argentine tango to NSYNC’s “I Want You Back.” The Argentine tango included a shaky lift that Bruno said he felt like Lindsay was going to fall. The judges praised the attempt of a “true” Argentine tango but Carrie Ann could tell that David had an off week. Nick had to ask if he preferred NYSNC or Backstreet Boys before giving him the highest of the judges score, an eight.
Score: 29/40
Rashad and Emma: Rashad did a tango to “Reach Out I’ll Be There” by the Four Tops. He started dancing with the group but quickly came down to dance in hold with Emma.
Carrie Ann told him he now dances with “style and technique.” Nick Carter said he was now elite. All the judges complimented him on doing a true tango. Rashad is the best and most consistent male dancer left in the competition. He has a good chance to go far but has to keep delivering great dances.
Score: 37/40

Score: 40/40
Team Boy Band: The boys danced to a medley of boy band songs and had to have 20 seconds of dancing without their partners. In a slightly ridiculous dance routine, the group danced all over the stage with a couple of shirt changes. During the dance on the chair Bonner’s timing was off from the group.
After Carrie Ann danced along she praised it as fun but noticed Bonner’s mistakes. The other judges thought it was fun yet cheesy. All the boys were revealed to be safe even though they were lowest on leaderboard last week.
Score: 33/40
Team Girl Group: The girls danced to a medley of girl group songs. The dance was fun but a combination of camera angles and lighting issues made it hard to see what was really going on with the dance.
The judges were underwhelmed, except for Nick Carter, who rightfully said he didn’t know why the girls were in jeopardy. The judges scores reflected that the girls performance might not have been more fun but had better dancing.
Score: 34/40

Heather and Maks were voted off. After a perfect score, Heather had to leave. This is the first couple who left before I thought they should! Heather has potential as shown by tonight’s dance and some of the guys should have went home first. It is so sad to see Heather who had a chance to win leave before worse dancers!
