Frequency Review: Gray Line (Season 1 Episode 9)

Frequency, Reviews

On Frequency Season 1 Episode 8, “Gray Line,” Deacon Joe Hurley is confirmed to be the Nightingale, and now, all we have to do is catch him. Of course by catch, Raimy and Frank really mean kill. Semantics.

Raimy has always been a bad cop when it comes to following rules and procedure. She’s got a good gut instinct and a fair amount of investigative skill, but she lets what she believes and, in some cases, knows to be right overrule everything else.

It’s frustrating to see her ignore procedure or not consider that everything she has said is circumstantial. You wonder if she has always been this bad of a cop, and it’s just a fluke that she made it to detective, or if Raimy was a great cop until she became emotionally compromised when her mother was killed by the Nightingale.

Usually, Frank is there to attempt to get Raimy to really think like a cop and take into account circumstantial evidence and all of that. Sometimes Frank is successful, other times he is not.

There is an opportunity for Raimy to have some kind of redemption, and it does not seem like she takes it.

Satch confronts Raimy about how everything Raimy found in Deacon Joe’s house is inadmissible because of unlawful entry. Raimy could have immediately shown remorse, or maybe the full extent of what she has done and how she has essentially cost the department the case could have hit her later on.

It doesn’t. Instead, she focuses on killing Deacon Joe or rather Frank killing him.

What would be great is if there are repercussions for what Raimy did. Satch could have to file a report, and there could be a hearing, Raimy could get suspended, or Raimy could get kicked off the Nightingale task force. I’m not sure what the repercussions would be if a detective did this in real life, but Raimy should face a consequence other than Satch giving her a talking to.

Plus, it could be really entertaining to watch Raimy continue to work the case without her badge and without her resources. Do you think Raimy should face some sort of punishment or consequence at work?

The Nightingale storyline, as always, is the most entertaining part of the hour. If the entire show could just be a really in depth investigation into the Nightingale case, things would be so much better. Because everything else is beyond boring — I’m talking like maybe a step above watching paint dry.

Daniel and Raimy? Yawn. Don’t be the other woman, Raimy. Wait until he dumps his fiancé and then date him.

Stan being a dirty cop has never really been all that fun to watch. There was an inkling a couple episodes back that Satch might also be dirty, which has not really gone anywhere since then.

Admittedly, Stan talking to Frank at the cemetery was entertaining. For a moment, Stan’s speech makes you question who is in the right — Stan or Frank.
