10 Terrific TV Bromances from 2016

Arrow, Best of 2016, Gilmore Girls, Jane the Virgin, Preacher, Stranger Things, Suits, Teen Wolf, The Flash

While fictional romances are often fraught with triangles, ship wars, and unrequited love, some of TV’s greatest relationships are those between friends.  And no friendship entertains quite like a bromance.

What’s not to love about two men who share an adorably inseparable bond?

From breakout hits to old favorites, this year’s shows provided plenty of man-to-man affection.  Take a look at our list of the very best television bromances of 2016.

1. Michael Cordero and Rogelio De La Vega (Jane the Virgin)

Rogelio: You know how I always say he’s my best friend? Well, I mean it.

Jane and Michael may have said “I do” this year, but Jane the Virgin‘s greatest love story is that of Michael and his father-in-law, Rogelio.

As a loud and proud member of #TeamMichael, Rogelio has never kept his feelings for Jane’s leading man quiet.  And, in return, Michael embraces his affection with open arms.  The friendship between these two is just one of the many things that make Michael an amazing husband to Jane and member of the Villanueva family.

2. Luke Danes and Jess Mariano (Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life)

Jess: You are a very handsome man. I mean, very hot. Rande Gerber hot. You look good.

These two fan-favorites may have had a rocky relationship over the years, but the love and friendship between them is clearer than ever in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

In the much-anticipated Netflix revival, we see Jess as the man fans always knew he would become: a mature, intelligent, and kind adult.  His snark, however, remains in tact-providing many moments of nephew/uncle mocking reminiscent of the original series.

Whether or not the show continues beyond the last four words, it’s nice to know this familial bromance lives on.

3. Barry Allen and Joe West (The Flash)

Joe: Every time I think you’ve run out of ways to be a hero, you show me another one.

The relationship between The Flash‘s Barry and Joe goes beyond a bromance.  They share the unique bond of both father and son and best friends.

When Joe West took in his neighbors’ child after a tragic accident left him parent-less, he became the primary father-figure in young Barry Allen’s life.  Now that Barry is a full-grown speedster, however, their relationship has evolved into one of friends and confidants.

And though they’ve faced many ups, downs, and complications (Barry dating Joe’s daughter, for one), both men prove time and again that there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for one another.

4. Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Will Byers (Stranger Things)

Mike: All I know is, Will’s alive. Will is alive! He’s out there somewhere. All we have to do is find him.

Stranger Things has quickly grown from summer’s binge-worthy hit to a major award contender — earning nominations for Critic’s Choice, Golden Globe, and SAG awards. And despite an incredible performance by veteran actress Winona Ryder, the show’s true break-out stars are unarguably the kids.

From the very first scene, the friendship between Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will shines as the series’ central force. In the end, it’s the strength of this 4-way bromance that keeps the hope of finding Will alive and ultimately brings him back from the Upside Down.

We can’t wait to see what new adventures these guys will face when Stranger Things returns for Season 2!

5. Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf)

Scott: I know this sounds crazy, but I think I had a best friend, and I think he was out here with me that night.

The friendship between Scott and Stiles is and has always been the heart of Teen Wolf.

When the show premiered nearly six years ago, the motley pair had the rapport of a supernatural Seth and Ryan of sorts.  They’ve since developed into a legendary bromance all their own-supporting each other through every horror Beacon Hills brings.

Now, in the show’s final season, Stiles has been erased from memory by the Ghost Riders, putting his friendship with Scott to the ultimate test.  But with a relationship as strong as this one, there’s no doubt they’ll exit the series as bonded as they were when it began.

6. Harvey Specter and Mike Ross (Suits)

Mike: If you want to get along with me, you better find a way to get along with him.

Once a brilliant criminal taking the LSATs in exchange for money, Mike Ross was on track to waste away his potential.  But when circumstances put him in the right place at the right time, all-star lawyer Harvey Spector took him under his wing and changed his entire life.

So much has changed and fallen apart since then, but the friendship between the leading men of Suits has only gotten stronger.  Fiercely loyal and dependent upon each other, Harvey and Mike are a TV bromance to be reckoned with.
