NCIS: Los Angeles Review: Crazy Train (Season 8 Episode 7)
Sometimes, it takes a village. Most times, actually.
Deeks, and to an extent, Kensi, benefit from the village in “Crazy Train,” NCIS: LA’s Season 8 Episode 7. Deeks because, when you’re someone’s whole support system, you need a support system of your own, and Kensi because – in the end, the little bit of stability the team provides to Deeks is something he, himself, passes on to Kensi.
And, if this episode is to be believed, it’s something that will continue to be passed on – for a long while to come.
Kensi is doing surprisingly well, considering the circumstances, and yet Kensi is not doing fine. She’s frustrated, she’s short with Deeks and she doesn’t/can’t understand that he really means it when he says he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, no matter what.
Can you blame her, though? She’s a woman used to being strong, to not having to depend on anyone. She’s also a woman with abandonment issues.
Traumatic experiences bring out the best, and worst in us. Usually the worst comes first.
Her best will come; I have no doubt about it. Third time (fourth? Does the first conversation count?) will be the charm for Densi.
The first few episodes, while Kensi was in the coma, we mainly dealt with Deek’s issues. Now it’s time to deal with her issues, her fears, and, hopefully, to see her get to the same place of acceptance and love that Deeks is right now.
Not that it’s easy. But then again, life never is.
Even when you’re not dealing with terrorists, but with the same old tale of greed.
Stealing form the cartels? Does anyone think that’s an idea that’s likely to result in a long life? I mean, anyone but the not-so-brilliant mastermind in this episode, at least?
Worst part is that it all ends up with Callen almost literally swimming with the fishes. And hey, I like Callen. I’m sorta attached to him.
Not only do I not want him to die – if I were ready to part with him, I still wouldn’t choose the sharks. That being said, I probably wouldn’t choose the sharks for my worst enemy, either.
All is well as long as Sam Hanna is around, though. Sam Hanna can handle sharks. Sam Hanna can probably handle everything.
Even last season, I would have said the same thing about Kensi. And I still believe so. Kensi Blye is a bad-ass.
She can get through this. The team can get through this. Deeks can get through this.
There’s a happy, not ending, but beginning, somewhere down the line. It’s just going to take a while to get there. But hey, when the journey is this real, this well-done, it doesn’t even matter if the end is near or far.
We’re going to enjoy the ride.
Other things to note:
- I’m going to go right ahead and say it: I sort of missed Anna. Who knew?
- Fun fact – the actor playing Tom Olsen, Sam’s buddy? David Paul Olsen, aka Eric Christian Olsen’s brother, and yes, Daniela Ruah’s husband.
- This show is cruel – just when I’m warming up to Granger they’re going to make him sick and potentially take him away? No. I won’t accept it.
- The Deeks/Sam bromance is strong, even if its way more subdued than the Sam/Callen partnership.
- Invisibility or Flight? I’d pick flight. What about you?
- Can I just point out this one thing about Densi before I finish: Kensi’s pulling away, yes, but she’s not pushing Deeks so far that he won’t’ want to come back. Deek’s mainpain is present, yes, but he’s not letting it overshadow Kensi’s real struggle. It’s all very beautiful and healthy and it gives me feels, okay? Feels.

Good review! This episode was action packed, well balancd, had character development, and really beautiful acting by all the cast. Eric Christian Olsen in all his scenes was superb, the scene with Kensi where he proposed again made me cry; he is just so good . I am thinking the next proposal should be Kensi to Deeks, in the Christmas episode , he has already proposed three times. I am so enjoying this show, I so look forward to the next episode.
Another weak review. Your focus is always and primarily on Kensi and Deeks–even when they’re in it for less than 10 minutes. If you don’t know how to write a review, read up. Your bio says you’re an attorney; that should mean you know how to read. Don’t be so “madly in love” with Densi that you can’t write a decent review. But I can see that most of your “readers” don’t understand what an actual review is, either, so you’re writing down to your audience–maybe that explains it.
Hi,
I can see by your review of the review that you are a reviewer who likes to review things of the reviews that others review. That must be cool. How much time, on average, does that take? I’m doing a poll.
