5 Things We Learned About ‘Game of Thrones’ at San Diego Comic-Con

Game of Thrones, San Diego Comic-Con

We have a long wait ahead. And yet, any wait would be long considering what is coming.

That was the main take-away from the Game of Thrones Panel. The best show on TV is winding down, and though we’ll miss it desperately when it’s gone, we can’t wait to know the ending. We can’t wait to know more.

And the actors can’t either.

Here are five things we learned from Game of Thrones at San Diego Comic-Con:

1. It’s all George R. R Martin’s fault

David Benioff & D.B. Weiss were very quick to deflect blame for well …anything and everything that viewers might not have liked, jokingly stating that “It’s all George’s fault,” referring to Game of Thrones writer, George R. R. Martin.

Joke’s on them, though, because we know that with Mr. Martin still not having finished book 6, titled The Winds of Winter all that happened this season might have been thought up by the author first, but it was David and D.B who put it in motion.

So, we’re blaming Martin, yes, but we’re also blaming them. Shared blame, if you were.

2. “Hodor” will never get old

Fans chanted “Hodor” every time Kristian Nairn made an appearance, whether it was at the panel, on the convention floor or even on the screen. And the joke was everywhere around San Diego Comic-Con, for even cosplayers got the same reaction as the real live Hodor.

Never again will Game of Thrones fans say: Hold the door. It is now just Hodor. That’s their tribute.

3. There’s trouble brewing in the North

Kit Harington wasn’t present, but Sophie Turner was and she wasn’t eager to dispel the rumors of trouble brewing among Jon Snow and his sister/cousin Sansa Stark.

If anything, she added fuel to the flame by stating that Sansa doesn’t think Jon is fit for ruling and that she’d do a better job than him. She did take some time to point out the bonds of affection that exist between the two characters, but if her words are to be believed, that won’t be enough.

4. The cast knows as little as Jon Snow

It was all speculation during the Game of Thrones panel, and that’s fine, that’s fun. We just would rather have some actual news.

This cast, however, knows nothing, and as they’ve yet to start filming and have only received the first scripts from Season 7 we can believe them when they say they have no idea how the show is going to end. Only three people know the answer to that: George R. R Martin wasn’t present to answer them and David Benioff & D.B. Weiss were not budging.

5. John Bradley is basically Samwell Tarly

He’s quiet, sweet and, most of all, faithful. He did pick Jon Snow for the Iron Throne, and he specifically stated he did so out of loyalty. Also, he geeked out over books. Books! Have you heard of a more Samwell Tarly thing to do?

To be honest, it’s kind of a relief to know that, if anyone on Game of Thrones was going to be like their character, it was Samwell Tarly. We don’t really need any Cersei’s or Joffrey’s running around.
