Containment Review: Inferno (Season 1 Episode 7)
This week’s episode of Containment entitled ‘Inferno,’ takes place mostly inside Bitscan, and we get to really see what is becoming of those stuck within the cordon.
Firstly, a lot of people seem to be infected.
I’ve never understood why people infected with a deadly virus attack other people; they jump up and literally try to make sure others get infected too.
I would think that some people would choose to seclude themselves, and try to not be a hazard to the rest of society, but what do I know?
The episode starts off with Jake saving the day. To be honest, it’s one of the best moments during the episode, where Leann is being taken away, and Teresa is freaking out, but Jana is trying to talk the gangster down.
There’s a lot happening, and it feels like it’s just going to end badly — for someone.
But then in comes Jake, and he saves everyone. It is a triumphant moment for our underdog hero who has power thrust upon him.
This episode really plays to the strengths of our characters, specifically Jana, who has just become more and more bad-ass with every episode.
Not only can she decrypt the USB that Lex hands off to Jake, but she can turn the lights on for the entire building with just a couple of buttons, and even fight off a crazed meth-head with just a phone!
I like seeing strong female characters in these shows, so kudos to you, Christina Moses. You are brilliant!
Speaking of the phone that Jana used to kick some ass…it’s from the government.
Lex thought that Jana was talking from a government satellite phone when she called him from the stairwell. That seems to be a big piece of the puzzle, and with theories going around about what really happened with this virus.
The idea that the government is somehow involved in this mess is scary, and I’m sure that next week we’ll be able to see exactly to what degree they have been involved.
This cannot end well.
And while I enjoy watching Jana be awesome, I also think I have warmed up to Xander.
Up until “Inferno,” I think I was the least excited about Teresa and Xander’s storyline. This week, however, he stands up to Leann, and tells her to keep her mouth shut so that Teresa isn’t so stressed out all the time. It’s this moment that makes me like (and respect), him.
Because he’s 100% right.
Leann has always been a ball of negativity. She never once seemed nurturing or happy for her daughter. Sure, it’s a teenage pregnancy, but all of the eye rolls and monotone put-downs are becoming a bit much.
She only really gives her blessing to the pair when she thinks she’s about to die; a blessing I personally don’t really think either of them needed.
Xander and Teresa are going to make great parents. I believe that.
You know who else is going to make a great parent? Or step parent, if he doesn’t die first?
Jake.
Watching him talk about Katie in a quiet moment with Jana is needed in such an intense episode, and I loved every second of it.
What’s funny about it is, we’ve only heard Jake declare his feelings. To Lex and to Jana, and yes, it’s cute and adorable, but at the same time…does Katie feel the same way?
Can Katie say she loves Jake for a change? It would be nice to hear her talk about her feelings once too, maybe to Quinn. That’d be a sweet.
All in all, Containment is picking up the pace, and slowly pieces are starting fall into place that suggest the whole virus is part of something a lot bigger.
The show is doing an amazing job with making us become invested in the ‘problem of the week,’ with the intense action and epic declarations, but at the same time dropping subtle hints and clues for the over arching plot.
With the show returning in two weeks, my mind has time to cook up the craziest conspiracy theories and maybe even some romantic fan-fiction.

I just read all the reviews on one go and definitely love the spot on comments about my fave tv show this Spring. It’s got everything you need in a compelling drama and the relationships havecso much chemistry. Never heard of either Chris Wood or Kristen Gutoskie before but these has some good acting chops and make great believable characters Jake’s growth has been amazing and testament that sometimes in life bad situations bring out the best in people too. Katie despite her past is a survivor and if they get out of the cordon unscathed I hope they can give the tripod family love & life a go.
…and I reckon although it seems Dr Cannaerts is responsible I’m sure there is some govt involvement too.
A great show despite its limitations and look fwd to next 5 episodes
