Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Top 7 Moments from ‘Kimmy Sees a Sunset!’ and ‘Kimmy Finds Her Mom!’ (Season 2 Episodes 12 and 13)

Reviews, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has come to a close. The second half of this season is a little dark, but Kimmy never loses her fun-loving spirit.

Overall, an episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt can leave you feeling like sparkling peppermint candy.

There isn’t fear for the main characters’ lives and, aside from Lillian’s dubious morals, the show is a bit like having candy for dinner.

Season 2 comes to a close with Kimmy, Titus, Lillian, and even Jacqueline, all having major character-building moments.

Big life changes come for each character and, at the end, we can’t help but be happy about them.

Here are the Top 7 Moments from “Kimmy Sees a Sunset” and “Kimmy Finds Her Mom!”

1. Tina Fey Returns

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

“Kimmy Sees a Sunset!” brings back Tiny Fey in the role of Andrea. We love Andrea and the mess that she is.

This episode breaks down the borders between Day Andrea and Night Andrea, as Andrea starts day drinking.

Kimmy’s attempt to help her backfires when she finds out Andrea is wearing a camel bag full of vodka. When Kimmy says she likes Day Andrea better Andrea says:

ANDREA: Guess what? I’m not two different people. I’m just one big mess, and you can’t fix me Kimmy. Sorry!”

As much as this line hurts, Andrea has a point. Kimmy wants to fix people. She thinks the world should be filled with sunshine and rainbows, but that isn’t how the world works.

Andrea has developed a wall between herself and Night Andrea and accepting that they are not two different people, and instead one big mess, is a very adult observation.

Another awesome thing about Tina Fey’s appearance is a miniature 30 Rock reunion between Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski.

2. Jacqueline Falls for Russ

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Jacqueline has been seeing Russ, the man who reclaimed her painting in Episode 8. In Episode 12, Jacqueline genuinely falls for Russ, and only realized it when she brings him back to her unfurnished apartment.

JACQUELINE: Why would I care more about his dumb punchable head than my own—I put his needs before mine. What? Why? He’s so gross!

But love comes in many forms, and Jacqueline and Russ are still together for Thanksgiving. Another speed bump comes when Jacqueline finds out that Russ’ family owns the Washington Redskins.

What’s touching about Russ’s acceptance of her is the realization that they both care. Jacqueline cares about her family and Russ cares about the voiceless. Their unlikely pairing is what makes them a joy to watch.

And it may make this relationship very fulfilling for Jacqueline.

3. Titus Gets a Role and Mikey Supports Him

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Titus and Mikey are so adorable! We really hold out hope for them. Sadly, as they start to plan for the future, Titus gets a role on a cruise ship.

The role comes as a surprise because he thinks that he bombed his audition. He is all set to turn down the role on the cruise ship to stay with Mikey, but Mikey pushes him in the right direction telling him to go and pursue his career.

As reflexive as it was to scream “NOOOOO!” as Mickey proposed this it is refreshing to see Titus get a break in his career. Knowing how important that is to Titus, Mikey is letting him go.

But I am sure Mikey will be back for Season 3.

 4. Lillian Considers Running for Office

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

After handcuffing herself to a bulldozer in an effort to keep East Dogmouth “weird and dangerous” she prepares to relocate:

LILLIAN: Now the only thing left to do is sell to some yuppy creeps, take the money, leave a good-looking corpse in Waikiki—then I travel the world.

When there’s a knock at the door from some “white creep in a suit!” It turns out he’s from ISUS (The Interborough Society for Urban Settlement) asking if she ever considered running for office.

Can you imagine Lillian running for office in Season 3? I am not sure how that would go but she can’t be any worse than some politicians out there.

Although, what exactly was she talking about with her headline. Why is she “still at large”? What exactly did she do?

5. Lisa Kudrow Guest Stars as Lori-Ann Schmidt

Lori-Ann Schmidt, played by Lisa Kudrow, is a “Coaster-head” whose desire to have a good time supersedes her role as a parent.

However, her one defining hobby is her love for rollercoasters. Her obsession makes sense when Kimmy asks why her mom loves rollercoasters so much and she says:

LORI-ANN: Sometimes, you just want to scream your head off. Coaster’s the only place no one looks at you weird.

Preceding that was a mother-daughter screaming match. There couldn’t have been a more appropriate place to have this fight because everyone was screaming on a rollercoaster.

A personal favorite of mine:

KIMMY: I wish you were Geena Davis!
LORI-ANN: Me too, dude!

It seems so appropriate to meld the catharsis of this conversation with the excitement of riding a rollercoaster.

Plus, the character of Lori-Ann is a disorganized but fun character who just likes to have a good time. Perhaps Lori-Ann’s carefree personality will even be good for Kimmy in the long run.

6. The Velcro Mystery is Solved

Velcro Shoes

So small, but we have been wondering why Kimmy’s afraid of Velcro this entire season! Now we know why and it all comes down to her shoes!

Kimmy’s shoes were part of the reason the Reverend kidnapped her, because she had to stop and adjust her Velcro shoes.

This is a realization for Kimmy and a step in the right direction.

7. The Reverend Calls Kimmy

You know one thing that Kimmy shouldn’t be thankful for this Thanksgiving? CelI phones. Season 2 ends with Kimmy getting a phone call from the Reverend.

I don’t buy that the Reverend would be allowed to call Kimmy. I think that every episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit has shown that this is a basic rule of law enforcement.

Who a prisoner calls is monitored and controlled. Plus, how would he even have her number? It would have been far more likely that Kimmy would have gotten a note in the mail.

Regardless of how it was unveiled. This set up makes me really sad that Andrea is going on her bender.
