Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Reviews

This week Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. catches up with Lincoln, the Inhuman that helped with Daisy’s transformation. He’s on the run, being hunted by the ATCU and refusing help from Daisy and S.H.I.E.L.D. If I’m being honest, this plot was easily the most boring part of the episode. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t made me care about Lincoln, and I’d rather they not even try. The best parts of this week’s episode were relegated to the background action with FitzSimmons reunion and agents May and Hunter’s Hydra infiltration.

Jemma is trying to re-acclimate to being back on Earth and it’s heartbreaking to see her so scared and struggling. I’m glad they’re taking the time to show her recovery process though, and it’s an interesting parallel to Fitz’s struggle with aphasia during the beginning of season 2. Fitz holds Jemma’s hand and takes her through the lab to help her get used to being back. While they’re here we learn that vibrations and distractions are frighteningly loud for Jemma. I wonder if Daisy’s powers can help Jemma with this new-found problem.

Meanwhile, May and Hunter are working on getting into Hydra, which apparently involves tossing Hunter into a fight club style brawl with an old buddy. While Hunter is proving himself May gets circled up on by a few thugs that offer to buy her a drink. When they don’t take no for an answer she knocks all three of them flat on their backs.

May: How about I do you a favor and not tell anyone that a tiny, little, Asian woman kicked your ass?

Bobbi gives Fitz a few pointers about how to help Jemma: instead of trying to show her the lab again or get back to the way things used to be, she suggests he give Jemma something new to look forward to. Fitz takes Jemma to the dinner date they’d made before she was taken, having held their original reservation, and taken a step further to clear the whole restaurant so she isn’t surrounded by distractions. This moment was absolutely beautiful, turned heart-wrenching when Jemma breaks down into tears. Seeing the two of them work through this together looks to be the most interesting plot of the season.

When Daisy finally reaches Lincoln, she extends him an offer both of safety and of romance. It seems they are not meant to be however, when Coulson makes a deal with ATCU to protect Daisy’s identity, he offers them Lincoln instead. He still gets away, so Coulson gives Rosalind his number as a consolation to keep her quiet about Daisy. This is most likely going to drive a wedge between Coulson and Daisy; I’m looking forward to seeing these two clash and question each other’s decisions.

Other thoughts:

  • Melinda told Hunter that she didn’t leave Andrew. There seems to be some debate over whether that meant they’re still together, or that he left her. I hope we get to see them in the same scene soon (and I hope they’re still together!).
  • Hunter got his meeting with Ward’s henchman. I wonder how long it will take before he ends up head to head with Ward. Something tells me this isn’t going to end well for Hunter.
  • Jemma tells Bobbi she has to go back to the alien planet. WHAT?! and also WHY?!
