Castle: Top 6 Moments From ‘What Lies Beneath’

Castle

There are a lot of issues with what’s happening on Castle right now.

I’m trying to give this whole thing the benefit of the doubt, mostly because I see the reasoning behind the split between Castle and Beckett. But rather than continue to talk about that at length, I want to focus on the great moments from “What Lies Beneath.” Because no matter how you feel about Beckett leaving Castle, there’s no denying that that those great moments are there.

1. Martha gets real with Beckett.

We really don’t see enough of Martha, but when she’s there, she always has an important purpose. She says what we’re all thinking, and she’s bold enough to not hold back. Of course, she also shows that she misses having Beckett around too, and the two end up having a really sweet moment together.

2. Alexis doesn’t want the details.

Alexis has always been wise beyond her years, and it’s a lot of fun seeing her interact more with her father. Castle clearly views his daughter with respect, and their relationship — which is usually more of a friendship — makes him forget for a second that some details are better left unsaid.

Alexis: Dad, when it comes to your sex life, how about we stick to the after school special version.

3. Castle bribes Ryan.

Okay, this one is a little bit too conniving, but I love Castle’s silly side (the sombrero and the cocktails) combined with the fact that he can really convince Ryan and Espo to do anything. Ryan needs the money, yes, but you also have to figure that he honestly wants to help Castle and to be working with him again in some way.

4. Kate still loves working with Castle.

And that’s the whole point of this, right? Getting to see her reaction while they come up with ideas together? She looks smitten and happy — exactly what we want to see.

5. A perfect cup of coffee.

Castle is focusing all of his energy on winning back Beckett, even when it comes in the smallest of details, like the perfect cup of celebratory coffee (with a heart). It’s sweet, especially since it’s a symbolic gesture for the couple.

6. Captain Beckett looks out for her guys.

We haven’t gotten to see Beckett as a captain much just yet, especially considering that the dynamics are going to be a little bit different. But when we do get to see that chance in dynamics, she uses her power in the best possible way — to help both Ryan and Espo by pulling a few strings.
