Friendship Goals: 6 Best Bromances on TV Today

Arrow, Castle, Lists, Suits, Teen Wolf, The Walking Dead

We watch TV for many reasons.

Sometimes we do it for the plot – for the sense of being continually on the edge of our seats, waiting for the next twist. Other times, we watch for the actors. At times, we even do it because it’s there, and it’s convenient. Easy. But mostly, we do it for the connections. We watch because of how this person loves that one person or how the friendship between those two makes us feel.

We watch because we can’t help but see ourselves in the people that populate the small screen. We watch because we care.

And we don’t just care about the romance, though, admittedly, romance is a big part of what we care about. Just in like in real life, though, we love the family connections, we adore the friendships, and we live for the bromances.

Yes, the bromances. Those lovely male friendships that we didn’t use to see on TV and that are now front and center in so many shows. We’re here for those. In fact, we can’t get enough of them. We watch shows because of them. (See: The Voice)

So, without further ado, here are my favorite TV bromances:

1. Oliver and Diggle, Arrow.

When we first met Oliver Queen, he was a big ball of rage. There’s no denying it, Season One Oliver Queen was a hard man to love, and if we feel in love with him – if we decided he deserved a chance, it was 100% because of John Diggle. David Ramsey was not only the soul of the first season of Arrow; he was also our insight into a main character that was often grumpy, clearly misguided, and just flat out wrong.

Later on, their friendship developed into something more. Diggle is the man Oliver hopes to become, and Oliver is the little brother Diggle wishes he still had. In a way, their meeting was as much fate as Oliver meeting Felicity. We all need people. Not just one person. It takes a village to become the person you want to be. And, for Oliver, the mayor of that village has always been John Diggle.

2. Scott and Stiles, Teen Wolf

You know that friend you’ve had forever? The one that grew up with you, the one that knows you inside and out? The one you can never, ever fool? The one who always has your back? That’s what Stiles is for Scott, and the other way around. That’s who these two were when the show began, and that’s who they’ve remained, through good times, and bad times.

Teen Wolf is not a story about teenage romance. Nor is it a story about werewolves. Teen Wolf is the story of Stiles and Scott’s friendship. Which, of course, means that not everything can be happy all the time. Every good friendship needs to be tested. But it also means that, whatever happens, they’ll come out of it stronger.

Because that’s what best friends are for.

And if that’s not enough to convince you, how’s this for a fun fact? Scott’s mom once grounded him by not letting see Stiles. Boom! MIC DROP!

3. Blake and Adam, The Voice

I hesitated about putting Blake Shelton and Adam Levine on this list, mostly because, well, they’re real people, not characters on a TV show. But then again, reality TV is still TV, and they’re the ONE the reason I haven’t sworn off singing-competitions where the singers aren’t really that good.

No, I swear, if someone asks me why I still watch The Voice, my answer is always this: Because of Adam and Blake. There’s no other reason. I don’t care about the singing. I’m not very much invested in who wins. I’m just here to watch these two complete opposites bicker, and fight, and hug, and always, always have each others’ back. Because fictional friendship is heartwarming, but real friendship? That’s just too beautiful for words.

  • Of course you don’t involve Danny and Steve. I watch several of these shows and Danny and Steve so far definetily have the best bromance on TV (according to me).

    • I’ve never seen Hawaii Five 0, sadly. Though I remember thinking the bromance seemed like a good reason to watch when I saw the crossover episode with NCIS:LA. I’m going to take your advice and give the show a chance., I’ll probably love it. 🙂

  • I am offeded that you didnt include John and Sherlock from Sherock BBC .Best f*cking bromance . Would recommend it 9/10 .
