The Astronaut Wives Club Review: In the Blind (Season 1 Episode 6)

Reviews, The Astronaut Wives Club

My head is spinning! So many disappointments and stressful moments on this week’s episode of The Astronaut Wives Club, “In the Blind” that I don’t even know where to begin. Spoilers ahead!

Rene for president — For a second there, I thought that Rene was going to just take over John Glenn’s Senate campaign. And I kinda wanted her to. I at least wanted her to get the bid for press secretary. I think I was almost as disappointed as she was when John’s concussion took him out of the race. I only wish that we’d gotten to see some of that from Annie and John’s perspective as well. Having the campaign begin and end all in one episode was a bit much.

And on top of that, Scott is moving to the tropics to be a part of SeaLab (!!). I really appreciate that he is so supportive of Rene and that he recognizes that she is unhappy in her role as his sidekick. I hope that they manage to work something out that works for both of them. I also hope that we get more from Annie and John now that he’s moving on to (another) new career.

THE ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB - "In The Blind" - Astronaut John Glenn has his sights set on a political career and hits the campaign trail with wife Annie and Rene Carpenter by his side as he runs for the Ohio senate, while Alan Shepherd quietly grapples with a personal matter that could ground his career forever. Meanwhile, Betty Grissom receives an unsettling letter regarding Gus that challenges their marriage, on "The Astronaut Wives Club," THURSDAY, JULY 23 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Cook Allender) YVONNE STRAHOVSKI, WILSON BETHEL

The other Mrs. Gus — Speaking of new things, the woman stalking Gus is pretty hilarious. I’m just glad that Gus and Betty make up before he leaves for the moon. Betty really is just great. She’s always quietly thinking of others. I keep loving her more.

The ice queen’s new role — Louise is also starting to grow on me. Up until this week I haven’t felt sorry for her, but this week I did. How sad is it that she almost enjoys having a secret with Alan for once? Speaking of Alan, his storyline goes by so quickly! I’m still reeling a bit from going from him feeling a little ill to him being grounded forever. And then getting into a fist fight. I’m with Louise in that I’m not optimistic that living with him is going to be easy. At least she is starting to open up about her struggles.

Captain Dwight — Probably the most heart breaking part of this episode, however, is Captain Dwight. I’m hoping he becomes a regular part of the series.

More Trudy, please — I’m also hoping that we get more Trudy next week. I miss her!

Neighborhood watch — The only real light moments this week come in the form of Mr. and Mrs. White. I love that all of the wives know when Mr. White runs. I also love the reaction they have when Pat White says she doesn’t drink during the day. “But half your live is in the day” will probably be the best line of the season. Amen, sister.

Aside from those short moments, this week’s episode is stressful. I feel like we are losing our core team. I’m starting to wonder where this show will go as so many of our guys get grounded or move on to other things. Plus, so much is happening week by week that I’ve been having trouble keeping up with everything. I’m still loving it, but I’m also hoping that the pace isn’t picked up again next week.
