After 184 Sunny episodes, this may be the first one to confuse many fans. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 Episode 7, “Gilligan’s Island: A Conspiracy Theorist’s Paradise” works as a tribute to Gilligan’s Island and conspiracy theorists.
Many aren’t conspiracy theorists and may not be Gilligan’s Island fans, so they may not understand most of the episode. However, many will appreciate what happens. Gilligan’s Island fans likely recognized and understood all the references, including some conspiracy theories.
“Gilligan’s Island: A Conspiracy Theorist’s Paradise” is one of the few episodes where you may need a search engine for assistance, including possibly the end cameo.
This is a very niche episode that only some fans can fully appreciate. There’s nothing wrong with catering to a very specific audience, but that means others just might not enjoy it as much because they can’t get all the references.
The episode has very funny moments, even if you don’t understand it fully, but it probably works even better when you can connect all the references.

Conspiracy theories are often convoluted and hard to follow if you don’t have a certain thought process. This episode becomes stranger as it continues.
By the end, you can’t decide if it is brilliant in how it subjects the viewers to the conspiracy theorist mindset or frustrating because you can’t fully appreciate all the layers to it as a non-Gilligan’s Island watcher.
In the end, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia takes another bold swing with this ambitious episode. The concept works, but the plot left room for improvement.
We can admire the choices but want better execution. The Gilligan’s Island parody parts are fun, especially to see who each Gang member associates with, but it’s another thing that only fans of the show can completely appreciate.
The ending has a bit of a twist where Charlie and Mac weren’t insane for their paranoia: Something was going on behind their backs. This twist and vibe of the episode has elements similar to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 5 Episode 11, “Mac and Charlie Write a Movie.”
These episodes work because they remind us of the creativity of these two men, if only they channeled it into more productive endeavors.
Overall, “Gilligan’s Island: A Conspiracy Theorist’s Paradise” feels like a very niche episode that only some can enjoy. However, you can still admire the boldness of it.

- I wasn’t expecting two Cricket cameos this season, but glad for it.
- Dee really is the best character actor of the gang, because she plays both characters well.
- I wish I did know more about Gilligan’s Island to enjoy this episode more.
- The 1 less than 100 episodes is pretty rough, so I can understand why people have conspiracies about it.
