Not Suitable for Work Season 1 Episodes 6-7 Review: Handsome Mug Guy/Does Jon Hamm Cry?
A forbidden romance takes the office by storm. However, it’s not the office (yet) that learns about Bill and AJ’s secret romance. It’s the friend group that starts to react to it on Not Suitable for Work Season 1 Episode 6, “Handsome Mug Guy,” and Not Suitable for Work Season 1 Episode 7, “Does Jon Hamm Cry?”
These episodes explore more work dilemmas and romance woes.
However, the woes aren’t that serious, but some of the work issues become a major entertainment point.

The creative jobs present the series with its most entertaining and interesting storylines. Not Suitable for Work could have been a much different show if it followed only one or two of these characters.
Josh, Abby, and Kel usually have the most interesting work dramas. We wouldn’t have minded a strictly romantic comedy about Abby and Kel, focusing on their creative art careers and also falling in love.
Additionally, a show about Josh as this nepo baby trying to prove himself could have been very fun. It’s the AJ, Bill, and Davis work storylines that don’t add much.
However, we understand that Mindy Kaling wants to cast a wider net of showcasing young people in the workforce. This means some jobs that aren’t in the creative fields.

We don’t need only creative jobs for a show to spark our intrigue, but the non-creative jobs just aren’t having the strongest appeal on this Hulu series.
It may be because most of AJ’s storyline is about Bill and her relationship. It remains a weak point in Not Suitable for Work.
Two hot people don’t automatically mean that their chemistry radiates on-screen. AJ and Bill just don’t have it.
The show’s writers are somewhat wasting our time by focusing so much on them. Because they happen so early in the series, we know Bill and AJ aren’t the end game, but they aren’t even that interesting as the show’s first main romance.
Elena and Josh had so much more potential, but the show let them go far too easily. We’re not even sure if Elena will appear in any more episodes in Season 1.

AJ’s mother truly added something fun that we wish the series had explored more on “Does Jon Hamm Cry?”
Laura Bell Bundy is already the series’s best guest.
She has a charm that makes her few scenes stand out. We wanted so much more of her, which is another strike for the series.
It needs to utilize some of its guests more.
Overall, “Handsome Mug Guy” and “Does Jon Hamm Cry?’ are fine. That’s just the overall issue with Not Suitable for Work. It’s a series that doesn’t quite live up to its potential. There are many interesting threads, but none of them have fully paid off so far.
We’re also focusing too much on things that aren’t that fascinating.

The best part of both episodes was Abby’s fashion stylist problems. They were really fun and had some unexpected moments.
We weren’t expecting her to get fired so soon. Additionally, the whole Kel living with Abby and AJ really gave “Handsome Mug Guy” its charm. The show should actually pull a Friends, and have Kel live with them for more than an episode.
We enjoy that Three’s Company dynamic. Another case of the series’ good bones, just some underdeveloped ideas.
Next week is Not Suitable for Work‘s season finale episodes. We also expect them to be fine, but nothing to make us anxious for the series’s return. However, the show isn’t bad, so it could get much better with time.
It’s just working out its kinks. Additionally, the show has gotten better. It could still turn things around.
