What to Expect from The Way Home Season 4 Episode 5: Don’t Cry Out Loud

Previews, The Way Home

Nick makes his first trip to the past to help Kat find Tessa on The Way Home Season 4 Episode 5, “Don’t Cry Out Loud.”

The end of The Way Home Season 4 Episode 4, “We Have Tonight,” complicates everything viewers thought they knew about Tessa and her disappearance.

First, they realize entries in the Landry family almanac, noting the deaths and births of its various members, were in Tessa’s handwriting.

That means that Tessa has been a part of the Landry family for decades. More than that, Kat, Alice, Nick, and Elliot realized that if Griffin returned to the 70s without Tessa, she was almost certainly stuck in the 20s, maybe even waiting to be rescued.

Of course, Kat immediately wants to go back and find her. However, having recently learned that she is on the bad side of the local bootleggers of the time, Nick volunteers to go with her to help keep her safe.

Based on the episode description, it seems the pond lets Nick jump through time with Kat, and, unsurprisingly, things go a bit off the rails. We don’t know how things go wrong, or even how badly. Just that they do. Hopefully, it will be worth it, though, and this adventure will lead to some answers.

Kat and Nick aren’t the only ones headed to the past to look for Tessa. Elliot decides that he wants to find his mom himself and asks Alice to jump back to the 70s with him.

We know even less about what happens when Elliot and Alice jump than we do about Kat and Nick’s jump. A few pensive looks from Elliot suggest he sees something impactful, but we’ll have to wait and see exactly what, or more likely who, that is.

Time travel drama isn’t the only thing happening on “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” either. There is also that pretty significant cliffhanger that ended “We Have Tonight” to resolve.

On “We Have Tonight,” Del tells Sam they need to pause their relationship. Shortly after that, Del thinks she sees Sam head toward the pond and chases after him. Unfortunately, her horse gets spooked and throws her.

The episode ends with Del lying unconscious in the woods, with no one immediately there to help her. It’s safe to assume Del will be ok, but watching the episode promo, it seems not before she has a vision of Colton.

How close does Del come to dying? Is Sam going to be the one to save her, and will we learn more about his connection to the pond as a result? Will this be the shock Jacob needs to heed Elliot’s advice that time with his mom isn’t a guarantee, and to come home?
