Young Sherlock Renewed for Season 2 at Prime Video

The adventures and mysteries continue for Young Sherlock! 

Prime Video has renewed the freshman drama series from Guy Ritchie for a second season. This news comes about a month after its eight-episode first season premiered on the streamer on Wednesday, March 4.

Young Sherlock stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Picture This) as Sherlock Holmes and Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time) as James Moriarty. As the tale is seemingly as old as time, the two become friends across Season 1.

The first season depicts how “Sherlock’s first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy, leading to an explosive showdown that alters the course of his life forever,” per its synopsis.

The season spans Victorian England and travels abroad, exposing “the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.”

Deadline reports that Young Sherlock has been a success for Prime Video, whether it be topping charts in 95 countries, hitting 45 million viewers, or being one of the streamer’s Top 10 Original series ever.

“Young Sherlock has that rare magic—millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon,” Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, said.

“Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season Two,” Friedlander added.

Young Sherlock Season 1 also stars Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Natascha McElhone (HALO), Max Irons (Condor), and Colin Firth.

Ritchie, who also executive produces the series, directed the first two episodes. He is set to return to direct the first episode of Season 2. 

Showrunner and executive producer Matthew Parkhill created Young Sherlock for television.

Marc Resteghini, Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, Colin Wilson, and Harriet Creelman also executive produce the series.  Steve Thompson and James Dormer serve as co-executive producers. Motive Pictures leads physical production.
